Outrun possibilities

I have an outrun ur cab sans pcb.  I've been trying in vain to get a board for under $200 with no luck.  I'm thinking about making it into a driving mame.  Does anyone have any links or info on the best way to do this and keep it mostly original.  I'm not a purist, I would rather not part out a perfectly solid machine.

Thanks

Lots of info in the Driving Cab Info thread stickied at the top of this forum.

For your situation, I'd recommend an Ultimarc U-HID http://www.u-hid.com/home/index.php as the interface.
It supposed to work with the original arcade potentiometers, but there have been a few reports of the A-Pac (ultimarc's other analog interface) not working with 5k pots and newer versions of MAME.
So there is a possibility you'd end up haing to switch out the potentiometers for higher value ones.
If you can find connectors that plug into your current wiring, you won't have to modify anything.

The reason that I recommend the U-HID is that it's pins can be configured as outputs.
With outputs and Howard Costa's MAMEhooker software, you could have your lights and rumble motor work as they did originally.

The A-Pac is simpler to install if you aren't worried about the light and shaker motor.  Those will only work in a couple games anyway.

Look in the monitor sub-forum for info on interfacing with the original monitor.
I've never done that and can't be much help.   :-\

Thank you.  I was having an information overload.

I just want to play pp 1, pp2, outrub type stuff from the early to mid 80s.

Pole Position and other games that used wheels that spun all the way around (360 degree wheels) won't work well on cabs with 270 degree wheels.
Pole Position in particular is almost impossible to play because when you wreck, the game changes the center point of the steering wheel to whatever position it is on.  So if the wheel is turned all the way right when you wreck, that is now center....and you can't turn any farther right.  This isn't a problem for steering wheels that can spin all the way around.

With the Outrun Hardware, you'll pretty much be limited to 270 degree wheel games.
There is a spreadsheet in the stickied info thread that lists all the driving games and what type of steering wheel they used. (the ones that say POT are 270 degree)

Man, talk about learning something new everyday! Was completely oblivious to this fact.
