I think maybe you're gonna make people not wanna do these if its always gonna be hard tracks. I love Virtua Racing, I love the beginner and intermediate tracks. I loathe the Acropolis track. Its probably one of the least fun tracks ever in any game. I'd rather race Chicago on Cruisn USA on the hardest settings. If you're set on that game track combination, I'll submit my time right now:

is it ok to put up a MAME game, or do you guys prefer to
stick with the M2 emulator games. (i have sega rally as
a backup game, in case).

Virtua Racing sounds good to me. 

Anything most people can run is fine.  (MAME, Model 2, Supermodel, Viva Nonno).
For the time being I'd steer clear of the ones that require a super fast processor (SF Rush, Ridge Racer , or 3D Gaelco games in MAME)

What do you think about a rule that if someone wins 2 in a row, they don't get to pick the next race the second time?
This will prevent someone from repeatedly picking the games they are best at.

It's up to Negative1 whether he wants to choose an easier course based on feedback or stick with Acropolis.
If we adopt the above rule and he whips up on us again, we'll do an beginner course for the next one.   
Eventually we'll get to all the tracks, beginner through expert.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

hey guys,

no problem, i'll pick a different track.

i'm just bored with beginner courses, after playing
them thousands of times... i figured something a little
more challenging will be fun..

so maybe the medium course is a good compromise.

ok, let me fire it up, and check the version and settings and
get back on that..

i have no problem with a limit on 2 wins in a row.
you can make the person that comes in 2nd place
pick the next one.

i also suggest making a list of racing games that
would be eligible (known to work)..

i only have a dual core 2.4g with an ancient nvidia 8600,
so i can't play modern racers anyways, in fact just got
around to trying out supermodel.

i'm only good at sega racers, so anything else would be
a struggle for me.. ha ha.. but it would be good to try
other games... i only have 1 or 2 more racing games i'm
any good at.

These are the kinds of threads that make me wish all these emulators had online multiplayer(with live spectating)

Sometime this spring/summer we'll do a outrun 2k6 live race.  Once I've fixed the damn thing that is. 

Via a vpn server we can all race at the same time online, and nobody has ever accused outrun of being too hard.

Its not that Acropolis is too hard, its that when you get in the mountains after the straight-away that comes right after the hairpin turn, its like driving through an earthquake. Or at least it is with the version of MAME Im running. I tried to take a video but I cant really drive that well one handed while trying to focus a camera

I can almost finish the 5th lap driving an automatic, how many laps is it? 8? My average lap is right around 52 seconds. Im not running great but Im not hitting walls or cars either, thought I could finish a race by now.
