Welcome to the Driving & Racing forum!
« on: February 24, 2013, 04:53:36 pm »
Wecome all!

I'll be posting some new info threads and re-working the old Driving Cab Info thread in the next couple of days.

I'd like your input on the leaderboard thread.  I'm thinking it should be similar to the high scores thread with the results being from a weekly or bi-weekly competition rather than being hit with a bunch of time from random games and trying to keep track of them.  Once a game is on the leaderboard, you may submit a faster time for it.

Being that a lot of these games have multple levels of cars and multiple tracks, we could end up with 9 or 12 different possibilities for each game.
Should we keep track of that many?  Should the competitions be limited to one track at a time?

Nice to have a seperate forum. Glad that all got sorted.

Going to take some pictures, more videos and update my post with a game list.

I think we should have one game, specify track and car every 2 weeks in a separate thread.

Picked this up last weekend. Did a few repairs, it's fully operational now! I have another one just like it that I'm refurbing, as well.

When playing this on Demul, there is a contant beeping when I keep my foot to the floor.
It goes away if I keep the RPMs from maxing out, but the vehicle never blows up or anything.
Does the original cab behave like that, or have an over-rev light?

I haven't noticed that, but I've only had it working correctly since Saturday, and I've only driven it on AT, not manual. I'll fire it up in manual and see.

Believe it our not, but my wife got me the pair of racers. :))

I think it only does it in manual, which IIRC is kinda lame because there are only two gears.
That's a lot of floor space for two of the same game.....
I'd drop a PC in them if you can do it without doing too much damage.  >:D
Nothing beats having all the Sega racers on one cab.

Funny you say that....

My plan was to build a racer. My wife came to me one day and said "Hey, they're getting rid of these two racing cabinets at work. I told them we'd take them."

So that's how I have them now. This cab has JAMMA wiring. Ideally, I'd like to add a PC and use that instead. Can it be done?

JAMMA wiring and analog controls doesn't sound right to me, but I don't have any experience with it.
On the old version of Demul, the analog controls were mapped on player 3 or 4.
That might be a clue, if those players are on an auxillary kick harness or something.

I doubt you'll find a plug and play adapter, but if you can get the pcb side of the connector, or connectors, of course it could be done.
You'd just run the wires to a U-HID or hacked logitech wheel.  The hacked logitech wheel would probably require you to swap pots in the controls.

If it uses happ parts, the immersion PCB might not be too hard to add, especially if you can get the wiring harness with it, but it won't be cheap.
I've also seen guys using arduino to interface with Happ FFB setups, but I don't know much about how to do that either.  Once I get my current projects out of the way, I plan to check into it further.

If you're willing to forego the ffb, the U-HID is probably the simplest route.

Personally, like the Logitech hacks, even without ffb because the logitech profiler software helps fix so many issues that pop up when running multiple emulators.  I have a spare Playstation 2/USB Driving Force PCB that most people use in the Happ/Servo amp hack if you're interested.

I will definately have to pick your brain on that one. My goal is to play Crazy Taxi on it, so the U-HID is probably the way to go. FFB is nice, but not necessary.

I'll make the leaderboard thread tonight.  (want to do some artwork for it  ;D  )

To avoid having a giant list for each game, we'll have a time for each track, but not each car.
The level of car used will be noted, but you can use whichever level of car you like.

Example:

Daytona USA

 - Beginner

 - Advanced

 - Expert

After we've exhausted all tracks on the games most people can play, we'll add reversed tracks.
The leaderboard will be limited to arcade games.
Rules about service menu settings will be similar to those used in the high score competitions in the Main Forum:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130361.msg1333712.html#msg1333712

Does that sound OK to everyone?
Recommendations for first game?

EDIT: I love playing these games, but I'm not very good, so I don't expect to see own name very much.  :P

hi,

i'm new to the board. i'm a long time racing game fan.
been playing them in the arcades since the late 70's and early 80's.

i did keep up with sega racers mostly, like
virtua racing, daytona, sega rally and indy 500.

now, i play them mostly on emulators and
the xbox 360, dreamcast, saturn, and ps2.

someday, i might buy an arcade cabinet.
we'll see how that goes.
