Suggested LED Controller? GameEx Front End
« on: February 18, 2013, 08:20:33 pm »
Not sure if the GameEx part matters but I saw a guy's setup over in the finished project section and I NEED to do my controls like that so I need to know which LED controller I should get.  I only plan on having 12 buttons light up and I have IPAC2 to control the actual buttons with to use with Mame/GameEx.  Planning on buying the buttons from Paradise but I did not see any controllers there.  So recomendation on where to buy would be helpful too.
Thanks from your local Mame Noob,
Rich

If you're going all RGB LEDs, get a PACLED64, it can handle up to 21 individual RGBs. An LED-Wiz can only handle 10 individually controlled RGBs.

Looks like they have a 16 button one too...that's probably all I need.  I looked on the doc sheet and it says if they are 12 volt buttons(which paradise sells) I need another Power source.  Did you add the .45 each and get the 5 volt ones?

You're looking at the wrong parts. And the 16 port LED-Wiz can only handle 5 RGB LEDs individually. One RGB LED requires 3 ports on an LED controller, one for red, blue, and green.

Here's the parts:

Controller
I meant the PAC64 also has a 16 port LED chip...PACDrive..I'm not going with the LED wiz-per your advice.

LED Buttons
Thanks for the links but why not buy the ones that have everything in place?  Oh wait...the ones I was looking at...

are the top only, right?  So if I remove the button and put in the black plunger no light would emit...where as your link(button) has a clear shaft as well?  Man I do not know if I have the patience to do what you did with the drilling and wiring....Crap  :)

Black Buttons - Are these good or do I need the exact brand as the Illuminated ones?

Thanks for all you input but I think I am going with Ultimarc's Ultralux buttons and PACLED64 just because it has everything in one package.  I appreciate all your advice and again your buttons...bar none the coolest I have ever seen and you cabinet truly is a work of art.  You should really do this for a living  :)

IMO, the convex LED buttons all the vendors sell... are crap. I prefer concave buttons.

Yeah I want to try them and see...I have a whole other set of normal concave buttons to swap if they annoy me that much and I will go from there.  I figure once I get an initial setup done then I can tweak to my play preference but as you can tell I am a total noob and need to get some hands on this build
