Hey all.

Been emailing Lee about some different things and don't want to keep bothering him.

Anyone have a place they recommend for joysticks and buttons and USB board to run them?  Was thinking about the package of sanwa joysticks with buttons to fit 28 mm diameter button holes from another site.  It comes with 20 buttons, two sticks and the USB encoder as well as an image to flash for RaspPi setup for the button assignments.

Anyone have any other suggestions?  THANKS!!

So, I found a couple places for buttons and sticks.  Pretty much ready to order.

Do the Sanwa push buttons or screw in buttons work better with Haruman's kits, or is it just personal preference.

Also if you want to customize a couple of things do you place the order than contact Haruman's or do they need to be notified first?

Screw in works better.  The snap ins require a thinner (metal) panel.

You can leave a note when you checkout, that works fine.

I ordered my button set from eBay. The cheapest I found was $61 for 16 Happ buttons and 2 Happ Joysticks.

I am about to start a bartop for myself at a local shop I've found and was wondering if there was any way I could get the CNC plans for you ultimate wide-screen bartop. Also have you ever tried doing this with with plastics? Ive found a place nearby that will sell 4x8 sheets of industrial grade cutting boards at 1/2 and 3/4 inch thickness. Ive watched you videos and would love to have it in the format that you put into the machine if possible and not the way it is laid out in the plans I've seen on page one. I appreciate your time and thanks. What is your turnaround time right now if my friend orders Monday. He's not as brave lol.

Almost done building another bartop and i will be using sanwa push buttons.  Using a cnc machine we made the holes slightly smaller than 30mm so they are very snug and work/look great.  You could also wrap some black electrical tape around the button then push it in.  also if you change your mind, the regular happ buttons work 100% in the 30mm holes.

I don't share the plans for the ultimate widescreen, sorry.

Also, the plans I just do up in autocad (like the ones on the front page) and they are imported into VCARVE PRO by my CNC guy...

Industrial grade cutting board would be interesting.  I have thought about cutting one in ABS or acrylic before, just have never done it.

Current turnaround times are 4-5 weeks.

Is there any templates for the Ultimate Widescreen that can be used in Adobe AI or CS6 so we can come up with our own art. I noticed the CNC plans for the entire bartop but nothing with individual pieces to put art on. Thanks.

Question for Haruman:

I am looking into ordering a cocktail kit for a friend.  I will be doing the build but I don't have any experience with cocktail cabs.  I notice yours is designed for a 4:3 monitor.  Another vendor makes one for a 16:9 monitor.  I played around with cocktail mode a bit on one of my mame cabs (which uses a 4:3 monitor) and it seems to work well for head to head games.  Is there any reason to consider a 16:9 for a cocktail?  Seems to me that you would either have black bars for most games and you would need to futz around with scaling for head to head.  The only advantage to 16:9 that I can think of would be for pinball emulation.  Am I missing anything?

Thanks :)

16:9 is more available, that would be the only reason I would think.

However, the 4:3 Dell 2001 or 2007 FP are still easy to find, and are 20.1" 4:3 with excellent viewing angles.

Speaking of the cocktail kits, would these be able to accommodate a 19 in CRT monitor if I was to rig up some kind of mounting system?

They should work fine with the system I already have.

Well the dell 2005FPW (widescreen) has the good viewing angles 88/88 all around, so the 2005FP should too

Are you sure ?? I don't recall there being a 2005fp - only the widescreen fpw which was 1680x1050 resolution so a 16:10 aspect - could be they listed it wrong.

Here is the CL listing https://albany.craigslist.org/sys/6036537846.html

From the picture it looks like a 2001fp - but the front controls are different...the 2001fp has a power button and four additional menu buttons - this one has a power button and 3...  Seller hasnt got back to me to be sure...

EDIT - so I did some more searching on ebay and looking at pictures of monitors.  Also went to wikipedia.  Dell did not make a2005fp as you stated.  The 2001fp - interestingly - seems to have come with one of two different front control layouts.  So this one must be a 2001fp afterall....so if the seller ever gets back to me I am going to try and snag this one.  :)

Yep that looks like a 2001FP - If you do get it be sure to get the Power brick (those have the power supply externally like a laptop power supply not inside the monitor case ! ) You can buy them but they run about $15 - $25 by themselves - so can add to the cost )

Hopefully my Ultimate Widescreen from Haruman's will be arriving in the next couple weeks.

Anyone have any tips on art for the cabinet?  Anyone know a place or somebody that has pre-designed art for these cabinets that can be printed onto vinyl and applied?  Don't necessarily want to design my own (not artistic at all).  Would love to find some that has been pre made.

thanks,

Vincent

Have an extra widescreen in Baltic birch, cut somewhat custom. Control panel is set up for Sanwa JLF joysticks and 16 30mm Sanwa screw in type buttons.

Admin panel has 2 30mm Sanwas on either side, and cutouts in the middle for 2 NovaGem (by Groovy Game Gear).
Back door has a single cutout for a 120mm fan, and speaker panel has 2 3" round cutouts for speakers.

Any one interested? Can do it kit only, or can do a "deluxe" kit with monitor / bezel plexi, retainers, T-molding, & VESA screws.
Let me know!

So I have made stands for some kits:

Widescreen:

[/quote]

So I am interested in one of these for my widescreen  just have a few questions

1) Do you know how tall this makes the cabinet stand ? like from floor to approx where control panel would be

2) Can it be modified so the  stand is wider then the Cabinet instead of narrower?

3) About how much would it cost and what is expected lead time on it?

Thanks in advance

What ever happened with the Vewlix design? I  found one photo in another thread. Am curious what size monitor it would hold, cost, and dimensions of CP (for possible customization). Am wanting to build a stand-up cabinet and that looks like a cool design, plus am in AZ so no shipping needed.

Thanks, Eric

Hmm, after doing some more Google research, the Vewlix is aimed at being a sit-down cabinet, is that right?  If so, that's not what I'm looking for.  Unless it can be "stretched" upward to a more traditional stand-up height...

It is a sit down, correct.  To make it a stand up, the base would just need some added height...

So what size monitor does the Vewlix take?  From the picture I saw, looks to be fairly good sized, definitely not a 23" or 24".  Guessing it might be a ~30" TV in there?

Have you done any stand-up cabinets in the past that take a 23"/24" LCD and have a control panel about the width of that Vewlix?  The CP looks to be about the size I'd want, since I'd like a 2-player setup but also have a trackball in the middle and a spinner up towards the top and centered more or less.

after watching videos on youtube and finding this gem (from google search) im sold on getting the ultimate widescreen by haruman. before i place my order, and ill make a note in the order if im able to provide it, i would like to add an addition button on each side for pinball play if possible. im still doing some research on running hyperspin because i do intend on placing a pc inside this unit so i can play retro and current games. hopefully i should be able to place my order before july 4th so i can have in time to assemble this beast while im on vacation. also, im going to with a 24in monitor since it fits this unit nicely!

Seeing as I'm back from vacation and ready to go, how about a coupon?
From now until July 15, use coupon code VACATION to receive 10% off your entire order.

Ordered an Ultimate Widescreen a few months back and couldn't be happier with build quality, packing & shipping, and communication with Haruman,  If you're on the fence about ordering one, do it!  (I have yet to assemble it, but...)

I'm a little overwhelmed by artwork choices.  Is anyone churning out side out or marquees for these 'a la carte'?  I would imagine there's a market given the popularity of these kits.

I've got some ideas and themes but am looking for a place to start.

Thanks!
Mike
