@Floriske this is starting to look very promising :) I just hope that lowering the adminbuttons won't affect the cabinets aesthetics because it breaks symmetry on the frontside admin panel.

That's a choice everyone has to make for themselves of course. I just added the ability, not forcing anyone to use it  ;)

After making some minor tweaks to the design I routed a first "test" version yesterday and it turned out 100%. Everything fits like a glove  ;D

And a picture I took to give you an idea of the size of my evo XR cade:

Nice! But what's the cut-out for right above what I assume is a 3" trackball, to the left of a pair of buttons?

Since my first test version turned out to be ok I've converted it to a first release version, see attached.

Since I work with Adobe Illustrator instead of CAD software I created a PDF instead of a DXF. Illustrator DXF's are unreliable.

The files are based on my own machine with 60x93,5cm work area.

Big thanks to degenatrons and HaRuMan!

So I'm making good progress on the cabaret... Question is, how do you want to handle the monitor, and how do you want to handle the control panel?

So I'm making good progress on the cabaret... Question is, how do you want to handle the monitor, and how do you want to handle the control panel?

I have more measurements, I just have to get back to the office where I have the cabaret (work is a little nuts atm). I can tell you already the top panel is just one piece with a taper cut on both ends. The holes for the speaker grill, marquee and coin door require rounded corners.

I'll provide detail pics and measurements for the monitor mounting board. took a lot of pics of the surrounding areas to showing how it all fits together. I have a control panel, but if you wanted to make something to give anyone else the option for a wooden one, I can take some measurements. I could probably trace a profile and scan/send it to you if that will help.

I know the holes for the coin door and speaker appear to be straight through. The marquee's original measurements are for a recess, with the full hole I'd say .25" smaller on all sides. I'm having a tough time removing the speaker grill and marquee if anyone knows the trick. The screws look like stripped torx or maybe deigned to be similar to rivets.

For the side panels, the original sketch model had those spot on, you have to get all the arcs and curves right. Not knocking his measurements, but they can be off depending on where you measure in the arcs.

As far as the front is concerned, I explained the measurements in a previous post. The actual panel extends into the CP area and the holes for the speaker grill and marquee are a little more complex. I'll add some notes to add to the previous measurements and post some related photos in the AM. Did he mention which cab these came from?

I traced the sides directly from sketchup.

Some notes (will update with pics tomorrow):

Top panel:
- bevel cut on both ends, sits flush to back of cab
- 1.25" below top of side panels
- top face measures 19" W x 22.5" L
- same angle to bevel as top of side panels

To add to the previous post I made about the front panel:
- Speaker grill inner facing hole is 4"W x 7"H. Outer facing side is the 5"Wx8"H
- Marquee inner facing hole is 15.25"W x 3.25"H, outer facing side is 16.5"W x 4.5"H
- small radius corners on speaker grill and marquee
- Coin door remains 7.5" W x x20" H
- larger radius corners for coin door.

Monitor mounting board:
- Total size is 19" W x 23.5" H
- Inner cut out hole measures 15.5" W x 18.5" H
- Inner cut out centered, with 1.75" on either side and also from top of panel.
- Mounting holes for monitor are 5" from each side and 19.5" apart vertically
- Shape accommodates mounting strips from adjacent panels, and is mounted 9.5" back from front edge of top panel.

Bottom panel:
- My cabinet is a little water damaged here, but it seems to be 19"W x 27" L. Once all the other corresponding measurements are done your model should be able to verify.

I guess my next question is, will this be designed to assemble just like the original, with  .75" x .75" strips to mount the panels, or with the same "pocket" design like the other projects here? Pocket design would make for a cleaner, less complicated build. But strength is a concern. Just curious.

I thought about doing pockets, the problem is the sides are flush with the front and back panels, leaving no room for pockets... I could change the design to make it not flush, but then it would not look the same.

OK, some more measurements, this time using some good shots of a partially deconstructed cab from an old post in another forum.

This is a tempest cabaret, and I choose to show this for it's differences:
Please note the items circled in red. This piece is not in my cabinet and appears to never have been part of it's construction. I believe it to be the lighting mounting plate for the marquee, since the centipedes never had that as an option. Personally, I wouldn't need it, since I have better options for lighting than original, but maybe a single board for the option would not be a bad idea. would add strength to the cab, as well.

Here is what I heard about the tempest and other cabarets with vector tubes having additional venting for the heat they produce. That is the upper rear panel. My centipede is to the right. I think the standard kit should include the panel from the tempest cab instead.

PLEASE let me know if you need any further measurements. As far as construction, I would try for partially pocketed like your other designs, the top, monitor board, and anything else with the exception of front and back panels could be done this way, even some of the blocking strips could be pocketed for added strength. Hope these are helpful in completing your model.

Yeah my cnc guy can make some excellent stuff, for sure!

That was exactly one sheet of 1/2" cherry melamine.

I've got someone working on metal control panels and vents for me, should get them Monday.

The top matches the midway exactly, so existing replacement tempered glass or Plexiglas cab be used...

Whatever did happen with Pinball Jim, anyway? I've seen the references to him leaving everywhere, but never did find post outlining the root cause. He was still here when I went on hiatus, myself.

The story is kind of sketchy, but it seems to involve U.S. Marshalls, a Konkey Dong flyer, a one-armed man, and $50 cash-in-hand.

Uh-oh.. What do I have here?

Can't wait to see completed pics. What's this "alternative to coin door" reference on your site about this kit, anyway?

It'll just be a piece of sheet metal, designed to fit over that opening, with a couple of holes as credit buttons, should be pretty cheap compared to a coin door.

I thought you were your own CNC Music Factory guy?

Not yet. I'm in the design phase right now. When I have my outbuilding built, then I will have my own CNC machine.

Still dry fit, no glue...

That is one sexy looking box. Nice.
