A little bit more behind the control panel and you've got it.

Even below the corner of the CP or still on the narrow side like I did?

Thanks a lot for your quick answers. I've already started converting the file, also adjusting the basic shape a tiny little bit so a few of the angles are a little bit more logical (in my opinion that is).

Wil post it here when done of course!

First of all Thx Degenatrons and HaRuMan for keeping these plans "open source"  :notworthy:

Since I have my own CNC router I'm planning on converting the plans to 12mm panels instead of 1/2" (12.7mm) so I can route them myself.
(edit: cut away the blablabla)

This right here, is what I need! :D
As a norwegian, the source for 1/2" materials (imperal measurements) is none existing.
Would be cool if you where to share these when done!

Ok, clear. Thanks!

And while I'm at it, may I ask which thickness you use for the plexi.

Will post for sure when I'm done, in respect to the gnu license as well.

@dextercf: no worries, it will appear here.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that my woodworking sucks and I don't really have enough free time to do a proper project anyway...so considering a kit. :)

So we've gone from bartops to vewlix to cocktails...what are the chances of a cabaret or full-size upright kit being done? :) An Atari style cabaret in woodgrain melamine would be sweet.

Looking at Wide kit for my Samsung 2343bwx, would look nice in there. Have to clear my plate of some other projects first, though.

A -PROPER- Atari cabaret kit would be incredible! I have one that's getting dismantled anyway (centipede, water damage), so I can provide any measurements if needed. Was just going to re-cut the sides, but I'd pay to be a guinea pig for this. I eventually wanted to make a Major Havok cabaret ("eventually" meaning maybe by 2015, ha!), which would require some tweaking to make it a horizontal Atari cabaret. Oh the possibilities, make this happen HaRuMaN!

Speaking of kit ideas, looks to me the bar-top style you're missing is a mini-Nintendo;)  Thinking a good alternative for some Fix-it-Felix clones, so more old uprights can stay original. Been itching to make one for my 3 year old, but can't bring myself to mess with my DK Jr. And cheap Nintendo cabs are nonexistent in the south east. Now a kit like that could be a big seller.

No need to thank me, just send me a prototype for testing.  :lol

Sweeeeet!! I'm excited too.

I checked out your website and didn't see anything about this so I should probably ask...please tell me you ship to Canada.

If not, I've got relatives stateside who could probably act as middleman, but I'm thinking it's gotta be cheaper to just go direct.

I /could/ ship to Canada, but it gets pretty pricey.  I shipped just a regular bartop to Canada, and it cost $80.   :o

Hey Nitz, I approached Haruman directly and asked him if he would mind if I could jump in to assist. He said it was ok, so I'll be direct and brief. I will be throwing my hat in the ring to produce bartop and full-size cabinets for the Canadian market shortly, and would be interested in producing the cabinet shell you're looking for, if you are interested.

I do continue to support Haruman's great work, and want to let everybody know that I am not attempting to steal away any of his customers. Everyone who has purchased from Haruman in the past knows that his products, pricing and service are top-notch, and without equal. My only aim is to help open the arcade gaming hardware market a bit more in Canada.

Now that I've sidetracked the thread significantly, and definitely more than I originally intended, I'll go open my own thread and stop hijacking Haruman's. (A big, BIG thank you to Haruman for understanding, and giving me the opportunity to post this message.)

Well after many delays, I got some more work done on the Barstick.  I mean my vinyl got lost in the mail for 25 days w/ a tracking number.  Ummmm really  :timebomb: it fell of the grid.  My Led light bar, came in w/ pieces rattling inside. So that is being sent back.  I swear the post office hates me.  :banghead:
So the marquee is still not mounted, waiting on my new light.  The Cp is just laying on there also right now. But here is the gist of it now.

Yes Brother go ahead & use them, it is cool w/ me.  ;D
The Chinese symbol on the CP. I cut out of the bezel & had it printed up but the blue made it darker than should be. So I will just roll with that for now.  ;D
With all of my post office problems, this is taking longer than need be for me.

You know, shipping/customs charges is the main thing that has held me back from getting a kit up until now. I'd finally given up on there ever being a Canadian supplier of this stuff, so decided to just bite the bullet and pay up - but of course if a Canadian source for these is becoming a reality, that would be better for me.

Good on you Rick for asking Haruman's permission before posting that, and good on you Haruman for allowing him to post it. You're both upstanding guys.

I'll leave this discussion now and pick it up with Rick.

In working with Nitz, I've come across this Sketchup, which seems close to the original specs (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d63d68d9310a036b10145cc1b33dac39) and this page (http://ggdb.com/GameByName.aspx?c=Coin-Op&s=Arcade&vid=503) which details the height, width and depth requirements. I've opened the Sketchup, and it seems to match, but the actual measurements would be very helpful to me as well!

Unfortunately I saw this after I left work where I have the cab in storage. There may be slight variations of the Centipede and Tempest cabarets, since the vector monitor needed more venting. Otherwise the sketch-up model looks really spot on... for the exterior. Unless my version doesn't fully support that model, looks like nothing inside except coin mech details.

I'll check this out tomorrow morning and start to compile some measurements for comparison.  PM me if you want any photos e-mailed directly.

Finished my first 12mm conversion today.

First because after finishing it I figured I should do some stuff different.

In the original design because of the router bit radius panels won't automatically align and might shift a little when placed in the slot. So I added notches in the center of each slot for this.

But just figured it will be a lot easier to use dog- or T-bone fillets instead.  :banghead:

So, back to the drawing board  ;)

EDIT:

HaRuMan, can you tell me if you use any "clearance" in the pockets for the glue/a less tight fit? (hope this makes sense)

e.g. the tab on a panel is 1/4" and the pocket for that tab is a little bit deeper than 1/4"

The tab is 1/4" and the pocket is 1/4"

However, the width of the pockets is cut at 0.51" while the material itself is 0.50"

My CNC guy has a VERY precise machine with tolerances in the thousandths of an inch, so I am able to get very tight cuts on mine.  Granted, his machine runs around $80,000, so I guess it had better be great!   ;D

Thx!

My machine theoretically has a 0.003125mm accuracy, even if the deviation would be x10 (which I find hard to believe) it still should be enough as well.

What kind of machine are you using that has tolerances down to a 1/10000"?  just curious  ???

I can confirm the measurements with this model:  http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d63d68d9310a036b10145cc1b33dac39 are pretty spot on. It took a few trips back and forth to my cabinet (the water damage didn't help) and the sides are on the money. I'm taking the model apart now to see what else needs to be updated. I see no back panel details so here is a quick and dirty ms paint detail (I'm no artist, lol)

Now I just had a makeshift back door with no details on mine. So far looking at others online that 19" x 37.5" panel has no details that I can see.

I also see now taking apart the model there appears to be no top or front details. I'll start getting those together. I may just start taking this thing apart if need be.

Thanks for those.  Good starting numbers....

Now, do you care if this is 1/2" or 3/4"?  I can do either... but 1/2" would be lighter & cheaper to ship.

Thanks for those.  Good starting numbers....

Now, do you care if this is 1/2" or 3/4"?  I can do either... but 1/2" would be lighter & cheaper to ship.

I know I would prefer 3/4", only because that's the original construction. Any custom work (like that Major Havoc cabaret I'll get to someday) would be fine with 1/2". Now if it's a catastrophic increase in shipping I'll probably change my tune.  ;)

Would the 3/4" also be black melamine? Not familiar with the stock you use, so is the melamine pre-applied before cutting, or after? Color choices? I know someone else mentioned having it shipped with the wood paneling on the side panels. I actually would prefer white since I'll be doing something similar to this:

And hopefully this will peak some interest in the same project I want to do:  >:D

I can do white / black / grey / and like 10 different woodgrain finishes.

Awesomeness.
Would making just the the sides in 3/4", and everything else in 1/2" make an impact in your shipping? Thought that could be a good compromise - The cabinet still looks the same, and is lighter to ship and move once assembled.
I assume it all depends on how you can lay the parts on 4'x8' sheets, but something to consider.

Once I get drawing I can better answer that...  Most likely this will take a couple of sheets anyway, and in your case, sides in white make sense, and maybe everything else in 1/2" black?

Sounds good. I'll be able to get the rest of the measurements tomorrow.

My machine theoretically has a 0.003125mm accuracy, even if the deviation would be x10 (which I find hard to believe) it still should be enough as well.
What kind of machine are you using that has tolerances down to a 1/10000"?  just curious  ???
My machine ballscrews have a 5mm pitch and is set to use 1600 microsteps/rev which results in 320 microsteps/mm which results in 1:320 = 0.003125mm

As said this is "theoretically" because every machine has it's inaccuracy due to tool flexing etc.

As promised, more measurements, this time of the front panel:

As you can see in the pics, the front panel extends 1.25" up past the bottom of the control panel to accommodate the piano hinge inside. So total height of panel is 34.75"

The measurements where taken from the front since I haven't had the chance to dismantle this cabinet yet. The dimensions for the coin door overlap where taken into consideration, so the numbers I have are for the size of the whole to be cut, not the outer dimensions of the door itself.

These are preliminary, since I need to very the type of holes needed for the speaker and marquee. Didn't have the chance to see if these are solid holes or if they have a recessed edge.

Attached is my first 12mm release version.

Edit: Added a "Side cross section" to the file and updated it to "beta 1_2"

Edit 2: Made a dumb error with the joystick positioning calculations. My idea with the lowered admin buttons won't work due to this. Once again: Back to the drawing board  :banghead:

Edit 3: Problem solved! I raised the base of the cabinet with 13.5mm and now the lowered admin buttons do clear the joysticks as intended. (see first sheet of new beta)

Edit 4: In order to fit Happ competition joysticks as well I raised it with another 6,5mm

I hope to be routing a first "test" version in the next couple of weeks (have some other stuff to route first).

Some things I "changed":
• Converted to 12mm material instead of 1/2"
• Converted to 3mm acryllic instead of 1/8"
• Converted the design to using T-bone fillets for the panel tabs and slots
• Adjusted panel angles to more logical numbers (30º, 45º, 5º, 12.5º etc.)
• Adjusted angle between CP and admin panel to 90º
• Enlarged the cp with a few mm so it overhangs the admin button panel
• Added the possibility for mounting/easy alignment of the cp with 6mm doves. Permanent screwing is still posible, added semicircular cutouts for this in the bottom panel (thanks for the tip degenatrons!)
• Added extra ventilation holes in the top back panel
• Added the posibility for mounting the marquee the same way used in my "evo XR cade"
• Added shallow slots in the sidepanels for the monitor bezel acryllic so it can be clamped in between (slots are 1.5mm deep, acryllic needs to be 452mm wide). By slightly bending the acryllic it can still be removed (e.g. in case a new monitor will be fitted). This is experimental but I hope it works.
• Raised the base of the cabinet with 20mm so lower placed admin buttons clear joysticks with a maximum base thickness of 42mm
• Added 6 button layouts + possible admin and pinball button positions.
• and some more stuff

Big thanks to degenatrons and HaRuMan!
