Is the internal roomy enough for an ATX motherboard or is that too big?

Should be.  Have dimensions?

She's a beaut.

After almost two years of deliberation I finally settled on the Evo XR as my kit of choice and I'm 90% done with the art package but now I might have to bump up to the widescreen version. That extra wide CP looks super comfy.

I decided to go with the widescreen XR, and Haruman's post convinced to go with a trackball also.

Planning for iL Eurostick joysticks and iL or Happ 28mm buttons and a 3" Utrak.

I think I'll use an ipac-2 for the controls unless someone has a better suggestion.  Initially using a Pi3, maybe eventually a PC.

Got a 24" Benq RL2455 gaming monitor on Black Friday

The control panel is 1/2" thick correct? I'm guessing that means it won't take Sanwa obsn type buttons, especially if plexiglass is used?

For un drilled cp's what's the best way to cut the button holes? I have a 24mm forstner bit but I'm not sure how well that would work with melamine.

What size speaker does this take, 3"? And does anyone have a recommendation on a particular one and a corresponding amp?

How thick is the plexi bezel and how is it installed/held in place?

And lastly: how do you handle lighting the marquee?

without plexiglass you can use the screw in types as I route away .25" from the wood.  Which kit are you looking at?

Forstner bit works great if you take it slow and have sacrificial wood underneath.

Excited about my bartop kit.

Santa brought me the IPAC-2 board, already got a bunch of iL buttons and  2 iL eurostick joysticks, plus an ultitrak trackball.

Got an RPI3 all geared up with a 128gb card running Hyperpie.

Got the iPac since I'm using the trackball. If had to get the USB interface cable for the ultitrak with a xin mo or zero delay, then I'd just be a few dollars less than the ipac2 anyway.  And I plan on eventually going with a PC instead of rpi3 if that matters.

Hey HaRuMaN,

Are you releasing the plans or cnc files for your 2 Nintendo barcade cabinets?

I would like to build each one.

No I am not.  However, if you get the files from here:

https://www.classicarcadecabinets.com/donkey-kong.html

And basically chop off the bottom and scale it down, that's basically what I did.

Huge thanks to Haruman (Lee)! Even after he got injured, he still took the time to reply back to my emails about my bartop order.  If you're in the market for a bartop or a bartop the you can customize, reach out to Lee.  He produces an incredible product and he takes the time to answer any questions you might have!

Here's my Haruman customs evo xr2 bartop.
Thanks again Lee!

Yeah! I decided to get with a HP LP2065 (4x3) 20" monitor. Most of the retro gaming I'll be enjoying is 4x3. However, I'm still lusting over more modern widescreen games like Tekken 7. I'll just deal with the "letterboxing."

Looks great!!!!

Yeah the EVO is set up with 4:3 in mind.

However the EVO widescreen can do up to a 24" widescreen.

How many of those EVO Wides are out in the wild?   My kit set to arrive Thursday.  Hopefully I can successfully build a bartop and post a finished pic on here.   Though I won't have any artwork.

I'm so glad you take extra care when packaging your products for shipment.  FedEx doesn't apparently feel the same way, but at least nothing inside the box was damaged!

Have one side glued together and I am going to try and get the other side done tonight before I have to leave for a work trip tonight.

They seem be to extra brutal as of late.  I recently assembled a bartop and shipped it to the customer...  luckily the customer had security cameras on the driveway, he provided me with video of the driver slamming the package to the concrete...  after dropping it on another box in the truck and crushing that box.

Amazingly, FedEx didn't fight me on that claim.   ::)

Our normal delivery guys around here are great, I deal with them a lot with work, so I know them, but yeah, lately, with the seasonal help, they could care less.  We have a seasonal guy servicing our office right now, and we had received a wooden office bookcase that was broken in the package.  We have a return label on it and it sits up front for the delivery guy.  When he came by every time before Christmas, his truck was slammed, wall to wall, I told him wait until it slows down and he can get it then, because it is a big box.  So finally, last week, he stops in to drop off a package for me (which is leaves at the very first open door he comes to mind you, not my office, 30 feet further down the hall) grabs the bookcase box and heads outside...  10 minutes later a lady tells me there is a big box sitting in our parking lot, I go outside and low and behold its the stupid bookcase.  Apparently, when the guy took it, he just set it down at the back of the truck, forgot it, and drove off.  So it's once again sitting at the door, waiting on him.  I have two deliveries coming this week, so we are going to try again.  If he fails this time I'm reporting him.  Our normal guy would have never treated us like this.

OK.   Got my Widescreen EVO XR kit from Haruman.  Took inventory of everything and tried to line everything up using the Ultimate Widescreen instructions.   Think I got the dry fit right.

Ordered some EZ-Lok press-fit inserts to undermount my iL Eurosticks and will have to figure out how to install the threaded inserts that came with the Ultimarc U-trak.

Just bought a 2'x2'x 1/2" scrap piece of MDF from Home Depot to practice on.

OK Lee, and others.  I need help.

Finally got some time to work on this.   I got everything glued together.  Here it is standing up, and I have the Control Panel sitting on there as a dry fit with the weight holding it in place.

Except I discover there's interference for what is planned to be the Start and Coin buttons on both sides.

What's my best remedy?

Also, the kit came with 2 magnetic latches.  ARe they both for the control panel or is one for the back cover?   The back doesn't have a latch piece like the Ultimate Widescreen instructions show.

Looks like you should be able to just cut that portion of the lower board off - pretty much any type of saw would be able to be used - If you don't have one Harbor freight has a flush cut pull saw for about $8 that would work

Just cut enough of it off to have room for the button nuts to fit in place and it should not show once the CP is placed on ( think that panel was designed for a different button layout ( like the pic below ) and in moving them he probably forgot to check the clearance )

Yes, sorry about that, new kit, non-standard layout, I missed the interference.

Like JDFan said any saw will do there really.

The magnets are for the CP (both of them).

Thanks.

Ok, so looks like I'll have to find some tools.  I only have an 18v drill, screwdrivers, and wrenches.   Think my friend has a Rotozip that could probably work.

So what's the best or intended way to latch the rear door?   It just sits in there?

Getting there.   All hardware undermounted with threaded inserts.   Successfully drilled and hacked away some of the material interfering on the CP support.

Time to wire up the CP and learn how to program an Ipac2.

Thanks for all the tips and support so far.

Just about done.   Though I'm sure I'll be tweaking software and config files and game lists forever.

Just need a proper printed marquee and I should be good to go.  Looks like the marquee area is 23"x5", whereas most prints sold online seem to be design for 23x8" or 23x9".  Also plan to add speakers and an amp, but the LCD has built-in speakers that are getting the job done for now.

Used a black posterboard to make a bezel to hide the LCD as someone else had suggested somewhere in this thread.  It was a bit of an arts and crafts project going back and forth with masking tape on the plexi and measuring.

I need to start a proper project build thread.  Maybe I'll wait til I get a marquee.

Might try contacting stpcore ( he was selling some backlit vinyl printed marquees at decent pricing and could make it to your size needed a while back and might still be ) - Post linkie - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143964.msg1495168.html#msg1495168

Hi there - long time lurker and fan of your work---

How much would you charge for a floor standing base to sit the bartop on? Along with a customized bartop...

I would like to have a control panel layout very similar to the recent pics on this page (centered trackball plus two player)

I would however like to use a 20.1" 4:3 monitor (possibly vertically?? With a taller style/classic/galaga like design -  but now I'm probably just getting crazy - sorry)

(Also - I would like pinball flipper buttons on the side)

Can you provide plexiglass (control panel, monitor bezel, marquee) how about tmolding? Can you provide vinyl graphics?
Would this all be possible? How much?

Thank you !

Sorry if this isn't the correct place or method to ask.

*updated/edited-   actually hmm... can i fit a 20.1" 4x3 into your EVO XR2 [widescreen]  ??   oh wow  - upon closer inspection it seems that to my surprise - a 24" monitor is actually taller than a 20.1 4x3!  wow-  sorry I'm a bit all over the place -- maybe I should just go with your widescreen model and use one of my Apple Cinema Displays [older 23" models]

what are the monitor dimensions in the EVO XR2 wide? [I want to know maximum height and depth -you list the width as 23" on your site] -  [I'm concerned about depth too because my display apparently needs what seems to be a deep adapter to work with a mount/vesa - maybe I should just buy a nice new 24" monitor ;-)  ]

so - the wide model also has a bigger control panel - seems no problem to add that centered trackball --- what about adding a spinner centered up top too?? too crazy??

Here are the dimensions I gathered in my research.

Ultimate Widescreen: 26.25" H, 21.5" D, 24" W
Regular Widescreen: 21.45" H, 18.6" D, 23.0"  W
Evo XR2 Widescreen: 27.5" H,  21" D, Width (Main Cabinet - 24") (Control Panel - 27.65")

I’m using a Benq RL2455 on the eco wide and there’s about 1/2” clearance on each side.

I don’t know what the backside of a spinner looks like but I’m pretty sure you can find room for one. That control panels is roomy.

Thanks - I appreciate the input... Have you had a chance to play with your's yet?? It looks awesome! Do you find the trackball cramped with the nearby joystick at all? Did you succeed in lining up a vendor for art? I'm wondering what the cost is if you don't mind sharing that info

I'm anxious to order and start building - I'm really hoping to hear back from Haruman soon (I did send him an email etc)

Yes I've been playing it.  There's no problems with room.  I suppose if I had to do it again, I wouldn't put the admin buttons right above the trackball.  I don't have any problems with it, but one of my guests kept hitting the button as we were playing Golden Tee 2K.

Nothing so far on art.  Just need a marquee.  May order something generic from ebay like this until I come up with a better design. https://www.ebay.com/itm/162917620352?ViewItem=&item=162917620352Wasn't planning on any side art.   I don't have a dedicated room, so the black blends in better with my apartment living room.
