  • it never ends!!!!
Hi everyone

I've been here before a few years ago

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,73117.msg1097509.html#msg109750

and now I'm back for some more!

since i built my last cab i now have 2 children :) Alex who is nearly 3 and Adam who is 7 months
this cab is gonna to be a scaled down one for Alex and I'm aiming to get it finished for his 3rd birthday on May 19th
hence the project title

inspiration of course from these 2 great cabs

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59828.0

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111377.0

gonna be making it out of 18mm ply(as I've got a couple of sheets spare)
using a 19"lcd monitor mounted for vertical games ,some old pc
2 buttons ball top joystick  ipac 2
mini coin door
i have no idea on colour, name or shape yet!
i will use mala as my frontend
I've been away from the scene for a long time so I'm gonna have to teach my self everything again as I've forgotten most the stuff :/

time is going to be my enemy,i work full time as a plasterer so the hours are longish and its a psychical job so I'm tired plus I'm 3/4 of the way through a large loft conversion at home fitting in working on it when i can and i still need to spend time with my wife and kids and i cant make loads of noise when their asleep at night either

just need any suggestions plans, game lists for kids or anything else you can suggest
cheers
Ross

not to much happening as been working flat out but ordered some stuff last night from arcade world UK which i didn't know is the same company as gremlin solutions?

I've ordered

 1 x IL S10 Coin Mechanism
(Denomination: UK 10p)
1 x Translucent Arcade Start Button
(Player: 1 + 2 Set, Colour: White)
1 x Illuminated Arcade Joystick
(Colour: Blue)
3 x Translucent Arcade Button
(Colour: Blue)
2 x Translucent Arcade Button
(Colour: White)
1 x Barrel Lock And Key Set
1 x Mini Coin Door
and 24ft of white 3/4 t-molding

i was going to order it from t-molding.com with the slot cutter and arbor that came to $42 but the shipping was another $50!(total £62)
i tried wealdon tools here in the UK as they stock a 1.5mm slot cutter but this was out of stock :( i rung them today and they have another router bit that does the same thing, that with the arbor and bearing was £32 delivered and it'll be here next day
ill be using a minipac I've got i didn't want to but its not doing anything it just looks messy compared to a ipac I'm not keen on the ply so its gong to be made out of 18mm mdf no idea of name yet not to sure of colour i might use some coloured vinyl on it instead of paint,I'm thinking like the vinyls they use to wrap cars, they've got a huge range of colours and patterns available
i reduced the ms pacman plans by 28% so the highest point was 120cm so i can get both sides out of one sheet of mdf i did a quick one out of ply to get a idea as to how small its going to be I'm not sure on the shape i might modify it a bit or just go for a totally one off design i quite like the donkey kong cab and the galaga shape
ive got a 19" flat screen an old pc,speakers, tools etc all i need now is some time

Looking good. I am racing to get my project "A Little Rage" finished before my grand daughters birthday, which is next Saturday (March 8 ). Seems like when I place a dead line on a project I usually dont make it, or make it by the skin of my teeth. Hopefully it wont be so close this time.

I really like those illuminated joysticks. Nice.

had a snow day yesterday so got a bit done on the cab i mounted the monitor vertically  i purposely made it the right width so it can be unscrewed and mounted horizontally(for when my boys older and maybe wants to play some other games)

got the speaker panel cut and the speakers mounted

trying to figure out the best layout for the buttons? space is pretty tight

Loving the artwork and the shape - looks classic

How is the fablon working out? Is it easily marked or fairly durable?

As I'm also based in the UK I was going to look at laminating my upcoming cab but holy hell that stuff's expensive...

There is a way around the "counterfeit" issue you are having with windows xp, peep this article:

http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Windows-Genuine-Advantage-Notifications

Great, especially if you have no plans to have this machine online after it has been dropped in the cab.

That's actually a fairly common problem in XP at times -- there is a Microsoft support article that details fixing it located HERE - ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295/en-us ) Either click the green download guided help button on the page to let MS run through a guided step by step guide to fix it or follow the manual method if you do not trust the guided support ( Note : be sure you still have a copy of the product key and the install disk before running as it will delete the key and you will need it to reenter and reactivate after editing the registry entries)

What version is it and is the MOBO a prebuilt OEM product or one you purchased ? Does it still have the original product key entered on the system (thus the reason it is saying it is activated on the one screen) -- If yes then download the ffree version of Magical Jellybean Key finder - ( http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ ) run it and it will display the product key that is on the system currently so that you will have it ! Then once you have the key run through the linked fix above to reset and reactivate using that key. If it is an OEM MOBO see this article that shows how to reinstall and keep the OEM preactivated status working -- ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457078.aspx ) or see this list of OEM keys ( http://www.galwayland.com/2010/03/windows-xp-oem-keys/ ) if you know what companies BIOS the MOBO has for the OEM key that should work if you have that companies MOBO from a system that came with XP preinstalled. )

,..and guess what? LOL, for work I had to call MS to try and generate a new key off of the Certificate of Authenticity, since the vendor sent a drive with an image on it, that was not tied to this particular blade PC. Anyway, MS says they are no longer issuing key's and the only thing they will do is ship you a new CD with a new key... good times.

cheers mate,i wanted laminate as well i wish i could just go down B&Q and get a few sheets for £20 like they do in the states
fablon is pretty good apply in a dust free room(don't apply after using a router lol) on the bigger bits get a friend/wife/child to help you i put it on bare mdf and it sticks great smooth out any wrinkles with a credit card use a hair dryer to heat and stretch it over corners i messed one bit up and that was my first bit,now I'm that much short! its really cheap to do mine cost £13
i cant comment on the durability as it hasn't been attacked by son yet

its a old packard bell pc that had xp home oem installed on it its got the product key sticker on the case, but as i messed it up trying to sort out a mala booting issue, i thought what the hell clean install had a xp pro sp2 disc sitting there installed it rang to get a new key
which didn't happen did a registry work around which worked for 2 weeks
is it worth running magic jelly bean as i already no the original product key?
my brother in laws friend is a computer engineer and shes got me a xp home disc and unused product key,but id rather avoid having to install everything again as it runs perfectly

that would be nice, even with RGB LEDs it would be cool, you could add a hidden color changer and amaze friends.

even something link this http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/case_accessories/hue with the NZXT LED cords. (not for the joystick/buttons, but for around edges.)

Cool LEDs mate

Right what to do next? went through everything to sort xp out nothing worked so put the disc in a installed it again and it must of replaced any missing files as I can get to the activation screen now so all I need is s legit xp pro key
I used magic jelly bean to find the key but when I entered it, it doesn't work?

Did you try using the Generic OEM SLP key for XP pro since it is an OEM based MOBO the generic key may work ( Listed here toward the bottom of the article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Locked_Preinstallation )

got a bit done today made a perspex bezel, got my tinted glass cut down,re did my cp so that the button holes were closer together routed out underneath so the joystick was a little longer, fablon'd a few pieces, cut perspex for marquee
any one any good with wiring? i got my pc power switch board just dangling in the back at the mo I'd rather cut into the existing wires and have a power button on top of the cab, than have it mounted where it is and have a button physically push the button on
the button is the little white square in the pics

you can see the difference in button hole spacing

Cheers
