Bally keypad emulation
« on: January 30, 2013, 07:44:01 pm »
I'm wondering how I can emulate the keypad that games like Bally's Atlantis & Strange science uses.

I've downloaded the manual for Strange science and found that the game uses the following keypad configuration

(note that I've used K/C for Keyboard Clear)

G  K/C  0  Enter

A          1  2  3

B          4  5  6

C          7  8  9

D          E  F  *

This is common on many of Bally's games of the same era, like Dungeons & Dragons, Atlantis, etc.

Any ideas on how to create a keypad for this and wire it properly?

Since you said "emulate", I'm guessing you are doing this for some pinball emulator program?   ???   :dizzy:

If so, to wire the board that Ken linked, you'll need a matrix encoder. (Pins are labeled C# for column# and R# for row#)

The KADE team is planning on adding matrix encoding capability sometime after the official release date, but if you're in a hurry, here are some programmable matrix encoder boards used by some flight sim guys.
