MAME on windows 7 and a 1080p plasma - What are my options?
« on: January 18, 2013, 07:50:01 am »
I have a cabinet with a WG9200 monitor with groovymame linux .iso installed.  It works wonderfully...

I want to incorporate MAME onto my HTPC running in my lounge, but want the best possible quality, regaarding resolutions and/or (fake) scanlines.

What are my options to be able to achieve this? I have all makes of GPU available to me...

I've never tested GroovyMAME on a plasma. The key question here is if your plasma is capable of refreshing at custom refresh rates: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=119346.0

If the answer is yes, then you really really want to benefit from this, and your efforts should be focused on finding the most powerful video card that has a proper Powerstrip's support. Unfortunately Powerstrip is no longer updated for new cards so you'll need to go two or more gereration back (HD 5xxx ??) to get something usable.

If your plasma is just internally reprocessing any signal to one or two fixed frequencies (very likely) then any card that has a good HLSL support is good for you.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
