yes, same old topic- CPU and what will run

The chart shows that the AMD is actually somewhat comparable to the Intel....... for PC games. When you are talking MAME it isn't even close..

Yeah I thought the SkyRim results was a good example of that. SkyRim relies more on CPU than GPU, so Intel crushes the AMD on that. Sadly I couldnt find any MAME comparison pages.

Newer AMD like the FX series runs rings around Intel.

Not sure if Trolling or srs......

Now if you don't want TOP level performance, the AMD is a good buy 200 for the amd chip in that article, and the intel chip is $300 So you get ALMOST the same power for $100 less but no it does not run circles, it doesn't even get 5 feet ahead

Extremely marginal at best. Again we are looking for a cheaper chip, and at that price it runs circles around Intel. Haze & the mamedevs code bloat, and only for that reason he recommends higher end CPUs. Again it is marginal for the cost. When I buy a cheaper CPU I am not wanting the best frame rates on high end games like Skyrim or BF4. You guys are missing the point entirely. :banghead:

I am running an AMD quad @ 4 Ghz, 8 GB DDR3, AMD 7850 2GB DDR5, SSD and I can play everything... Blitz, Ridge Racer, Cotton Boomerang, Die Hard Arcade, etc.
We play PC games on it as well, Tekken vs SF, Mortal Kombat, Super SF IV AE, MUGEN, etc.
Intel is superior here, sure, but can you play just about everything regarding emulation with a nice AMD system..? Absolutely.
I priced out what I wanted and the comparable Intel system would have been ~$150 more due to cpu, SLI/CF capable mobo, ram, etc.
With that said the next build will likely have an i7 just to mix things up a bit.

AMDs are cheaper because Intels perform better. OP is talking about an AMD Quad-Core A8-5600K, finding a comparable Intel chip to match that, and the price difference is going to be negligible. By your same argument, the newest AMD chip that costs $600 barely out performs a $300 Intel CPU so the Intel chip is better there too.
For me its Cost vs Worth, not whatever is cheaper. I used to be a BIG AMD guy, had high hopes. For a long stretch they were the superior CPU, but thats just not the case anymore (to me).
slappyhooper:
Intel pentium 3.2 ghz dual cores based off haswell are available for that price. I bought a G3420 for 60ish on sale. Or. 75 without.
