Im building a bartop, and want to keep in a specific budget. SO going AMD will (possibly) net me the most. My last MAME build was an Intel E8400 OC to 3.8 or so and it ran .. Gauntlet Legends? I think at that time it was the killer game (or the one I gauged by). I had it running fine. Im wondering if there is a place to get benchmarks or such for say AMD Quad-Core A8-5600K 3.6GHz Radeon HD 7560D or the AMD FX-6300 Six-Core 3.5GHz AM3+ Processor both CPUS are about $100 and the MB are about$50.. I would like Guantlet Legends to play.. So again.. anybody tell me if either of those CPU's will cut it? There is a thread here about them.. but no stats, or actual answers.. just 'should". thanks |

hate to bring up an topic older then dirt, but nobody using a AMD in a MAME build? AMD is cheap, and would like to try them as a current Intel chips are about $230 (or does somebody know which intel chip in the $100 range that might fit my needs). My requests: MAME - Gauntlet Dark Legacy playable Dreamcast EMU (null DLC) playable ePSXe playable as my old post says a E8400 OC to 4Ghz did all this.. but I'm so far out of the game nowadays on budget chips. I have a 2500K OC in my current rig and it screams through stuff, but I really want to keep costs down so dont want to by a $230 CPU and all that goes with it.. |

the AMD chips are cheap but they're in no way competitive as far as MAME is concerned, the developers who have benched them found the performance to be closer to that of much older generations of chips. You get what you pay for. |

My old AMD Phenom II x4 965 plays everything I've thrown at it including NFL Blitz and Gauntlet Legends at 100%. Dark Legacy plays smooth and stays around 100%. Plays nicely. Processor is can take a beefy overclock to. Stock is 3.6Ghz and I've had it as high a 4Ghz without a hiccup. Games were tested at 3.6Ghz. |

newer AMDs cant keep up with older Intels. Whats your budget, and are you lookin for a CPU Mobo combo, or you need RAM too? |
