Golden Tee Sync /Display Help
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:24:25 am »
Here's the situation:

I have a Golden Tee Complete boardset (green), along with a Jrok RGB -> TV board (ver 4.1, with component) and a Jrok SYNC Cleaner.  (Apparently the Golden Tee boards have some funky sync timings)

Symptoms:
TV in my arcade cabinet:  (Unable to get into any menus)
   - Svideo connection
   - vertically rolling picture (would be stable if not rolling).
   - Picture is off to the right.

Other 27" JVC TV:  (can get into menus, no controls for picture position)
    - svideo connection
    - Stable picture.
    - Picture is off to the right.

Ideally, I'd love to NOT change out the TV in the cabinet if i can help it in any way, but I will if need be.

My issue is the image being off to the right.  It's actually cut off on the right hand side.

I thought I read somewhere that putting a resistor (0.85uf?!) in line with the sync will "pull" the picture off to the left, however I've lost that link and I can't find it, and I don't want to do anything that could potentially damage the board / RGB encoder.

Any ideas how to re-adjust the position of the picture and/or fix the vertical rolling on the TV in the cabinet?

I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

I had an issue using a converter from Golden Tee's default medium resolution to VGA. Total shot-in-the-dark, but have you tried switching the Golden Tee's dips over to standard res outputs and see if it will sync that way?

My problem was wacky colors and a very soft/unfocused image. When I put the board in standard res, the issue cleared up.
I'm not familiar with the JROK setup, I was using one off eBay that is commonly referred to as the Yaton adapter (he's the seller but not manufacturer).

JROk's adapter requires STD resolution to begin with, so I've got nothing to try there.

golden tee outputs something OTHER than standard resolutions.

resolution: 640x350
h-frequency: 25.7KHz
v-frequency: 60.6hz
pixel clock: 21.5khz

it's the 25.7khz that's the kicker.

the cga/ega frequencies the converter can handle are

14.5 - 16.5khz -which is cga
23.5 - 25.5khz -which is ega
30.5 - 32.5khz -which is vga

as you can see, the frequency falls just outside into the space between ega and vga

which I'm assuming is why the picture is off horizontally a bit.  Still searching for a solution.

He's quoting the medium resolution outputs, but you said you're running the board in standard resolution. <?>
If that horizontal frequency is what you think is causing your issue, you don't have your GT board running in CGA.

The board is running in CGA.

There is a DIP-Switch on the board that switches between std and med res.

I missed that lilShawn was listing the med-res sync timings.  However, I'm wondering if there's a similar issue with Std. resolution output as well, maybe it outputs 16.7 or something?
