Specific Rules:

- settings: Default/Preset difficulty levels.
- One Credit
- Lives = 3
- Difficulty = ?
- Bonus life = I forget
- No MAME Cheats

- Last day is Tuesday December 26th (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2012.

General Rules:

- Highest score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed. No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game. Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.

- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

I'll throw up an opening score - 25,700.

The game reminds me a little of Popeye. Pretty fun so far.

I don't know anything about the game's original hardware, etc. I hadn't thought about a relation to Popeye.....Pig Out makes me think of late 80s Atari games, partly because of the music, but it wasn't an Atari game.

Some tips: You cannot die by falling. You can usually evade the baddies by jumping away from/through them. Sometimes the baddies get stuck in places if you hang out in a high spot away from them.

I corrected the OP about rom used. It turns out I hadn't the current set, which apparently changed recently/semi-recently, and thought the one I mentioned was like a bios or something. If you have an older set, just use an older version of MAME. One thing though is the game shuffles the 'eating places' more in current/recent MAME.

I'll post a picture later. 66k currently. I do not like the library. The controls are a bit sluggish. Sometimes you get hung up on the ladder or stairs.

Yeah, the escalators can be tricky. Game pads suck ass for those parts, as experienced by those who had them in the other comp I played. Also have to be carfeul of jumping round the fans on that stage. I think the hardest is the circus.

I thought the circus wasn't too bad. I use the trampolines. It's sometimes not obvious what will launch you into the air on the other screens.

You have to, but there's difficulty in the high wire (you have to push the stick real straight it seems, else you fall off), and the trapeze (it's easy to get caught be a wolf). Circus seems the most like a [cheesy] console game level.

I just had a weird game....well, a sucky session, that finally turned into a good one....but the game was strange in that it gave me the market twice in a row, skipped the circus, then.....whoa....a bonus round....that is really hard to score on. Then I got taken to the bookstore, and I gave it up trying to jump over a trap that I was sure the fox was gonna follow me over. Except it ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- me and I fell into it. I was gonna beat D's score.

I was gonna say I was dissapoinkted nobody was playin. Personally, I think this game is hilarious. Everyone should give it a few goes.

I'm trying to think of definitive scoring tips. The food shuffle is so variable, even from game to game, it's hard to point anything in particular out. The 2x boxes help I think. Oh, I know: chocolate cake, chocolate bars, and brews are big points. Chocolate bars have an added bonus of speed-up. Brews make you dizzy for a couple seconds, so eat carefully. Avoid banana peels, cos the slip and fall leave you conked for about three seconds; bonus is the baddies get the same treatment. They can also fall into the bear traps, and do sometimes just because they're stupid.

Oh yeah! Throw a can or whatever at the guy carrying a bag of groceries on the street screen, and the security dude on the parking lot screen, and a bunch of goodies will come out.

I agree. It's a great game... I discovered it myself a few years ago due to MAME. Would love to play the actual machine if I ever saw it.

More tips on gameplay: You can only hold a limited amount of items. Which is why you sometimes run over stuff and it doesn't pick it up. If that's the case, I usually throw something to make a slot available and then pick it up. 2X for example or Lightning bolt (which teleports you if you die and then you don't lose a life).

It would be great if you could select the item you wanted to throw; you have to wait till opportune times to throw the good stuff. The bowling ball is probably the best. The boomerang can be good, but a few times I've gotten one that comes back - and it whacked me! Guess you have to press the button on the rebound. Or maybe I pushed it accidentally, and it came back - meaning you can keep them!

I'm waiting for kixfan to come back with a good score. Ain't like him to let up, unless he just doesn't dig the game.

Da-mn. So close. First game of the day, and I blew it on a banana peel. Almost re-started on the first board after getting eaten. This was on older MAME, and only four boards.

It's not for a lack of trying! I LOVE this game! Playing with others would probably really change the dynamic. I imagine you can hit other players with stuff? Anyone know how many different screens there are? There seems to a lot.

Yeah, multiple players would be interesting.

There are a lot of boards, and aside from the first board the order it largely random. I was playing a bit a little while ago, and I got the painter's screen second or third. I was first offered it only a couple days ago. Usually it's fifth or so. Maybe it shuffles it with the fireman screen....they seem similar in a way.

Ohhhhh, the paint cans on the painter's screen are to give to the painters. Else they beat your ass.

Circus is still the hardest for me. I hate that screen. Not many places to go, or cans to get there, and the wolves hover around the numbered cans.

I've been to the bonus round once more - except it was an italian restaurant.

Who knows how many screens there are.....nothing in the history.

Whooooooo, rough games. I finally broke 100k again. So it's five rounds then a bonus round, this time the donut shop again. I did a bit better. You have to constantly bounce, or you lose a lot of time. I could never bounce off the blue and green boincers, only the middle red one, but managed to land back on it several times when coming down. It's harder when you get bounced back half way by the shield line thingie. Still didn't get very much, though. Not much of a bonus round, given it's difficulty and lack of return.

Disclosure: I'm playing this with a POS Mad Catz controller.

I've been playing a little every day. It have not gotten close to 100k yet. It is fun but the controls seem hinky at times. Almost like playing Donkey Kong with an 8-way joystick. Anybody else notice this or is it just my crappy joystick.

I just SQUEALED by with 112,060. I was at 59k with my last pig. I'm not sure what I did but when the round finished I was at 96k and then went into the bonus round. I was at 111k after the bonus then went to the library and got my butt kicked. Have I said I really don't like the library!

An intrepid player. Yeah, I mentioned above that game pads suck, but even a good 8-way isn't enough to remedy the sometimes subtle funkiness in the diagonal routes on the levels. You have to be careful. Also, if a wolf is close behind, it can be difficult to turn in time to throw something at him.

You mean maybe you squealed when you got it?! Heh heh heh. This thread could get really obscene. Yeah, library is second to circus for me. I don't even try to munch stuff on those.

Hahaha! or should I say Hohoho! I have a screen shot of all the naked pigs at the end and was thinking of a good line but couldn't come up with anything appropriate.

The best I could do so far, pretty fun, has anyone else figured out you can use the garbage chutes on the garage level seems to be random which one you come out of though

Are we using rom

There is again conflict in the date it says that it ends Tuesday the 26th today is Wednesday the 26th, which are we gonna go by? (btw that's not the first time that happend, I was one of many "offenders" in the past)

I'm using pigout. Op put space in between "pig" & "out" probably making it confusing whether he means whole romset or single rom?

Oh. Minor error, though I think obvious. Also, isn't it mentioned above that parent set is in general used? And, as arithmetic is our friend, date before week day in this case.

Anyways. Yeah, I found the chutes by accident. The first time, I just disappeared, it freaked the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of me. I had forgotten to use them in the last couple sessions. I don't really need them, though; that board is a cash cow (and the hits keep on rollin) for me, untill the security guard bales (or is all used up).
