I haven't ordered any parts yet, it's still in design phase. So I'm trying to put a flair on my theme for my cabinet. I've decided to try a billiard/pool ball for the track ball. The thing I dont know is... are billiard balls and track balls the same size? Is a billiard ball to heavy? Are there any factors that I haven't considered that could cause an issue with this build? |

Pool balls will be perfectly spherical and constructed of tough material which should be a suitable substitute for a trackball, but I'd be sure to only use a brand new pool ball to avoid chips/dents/dings. Worst case scenario, try the pool ball and if it doesn't work, swap back the original trackball and return the pool balls for a refund. There are 2 1/4" trackballs available from Ultimarc, Paradise, or ArcadeEmulator.net that should work with a pool ball. Scott EDIT: Just saw your other thread where you mention this: --- Quote from: Alexinedh on December 15, 2012, 04:32:31 pm ---I have a friend that can make custom billiard balls, so I was thinking a blue striped billiard ball numbered 101 for the track ball. --- End quote --- If he is casting his own, check to see if he can make them perfectly spherical. Any seam or other imperfection will cause huge problems. If he can do perfect custom spheres, especially 3" size, there may be some interested BYOACers. |
