A moment of silence

My wife is friends with one of the victims parents.  We are having a hard time even imagining what they must be going through.  Their daughter is the same age as our son and they played together before they moved across the country for work.

My son has been asking a lot of questions about what happened and I can't stop thinking about what messed up times we live in that I have to explain those type of things to a 6-year-old.  I mean, what do you say.  My heart goes out to them and anyone that has ever lost a child.  I'm not sure how you get through something like that.

RIP

And to make matters worse, on the same day a man in China also attacked a school: http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/14/world/asia/china-knife-attack/index.html

Yep, same day, last year.

My 11 year old wasn't even surprised when I told him.  What kind of ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up world are we bringing up kids in now that something like this, in our region, in a school just like his own, is not a surprise?

Really is just awful stuff. Little kids that age haven't done anything. I really hope people don't feel the need to "one up" the last most violent crime/suicide in an attempt to try and gain their 15 minutes of fame. Almost seems that's what is happening and it truly is disgusting. News companies should start doing the world a favour and leave the criminals unidentified and forgettable.
