Thx!  Any chance it is a date and time issue?  If so can't find in control panel to check.

Date and time should be adjusted by hitting the DEL key when the computer is trying to boot in order to get into bios.  Pics coming in a second...

First, let me apologize for the condition of this PGA tower.  It looks like it was pulled from the Titanic.  It's FILTHY to say the least and I haven't had time to take it apart and clean it yet but it should serve for the purpose here.

So the first pic shows the basic cable connection.  The bottom portion of the cable is connected to the i/o board which is where your controls are plugged into.

This second pic shows the inside of the tower and shows the wire coming from the power supply plugging into the i/o board as well.

I have two USB inputs on the top of mine.

Do you see that wire from your power supply to your i/o card and how it's connected to one of the side ports?  Mine is powered with a smaller connector on the back of the i/o card.  I wonder if that's causing your issue?  Pull that larger molex connector out and place the smaller one from the PSU to the back and see if that may work?

I'm wondering if it's just a bad board?  Maybe someone else can offer up an idea on this one?

Brand new mobo sure hope not. First error on booting says file usbui.dll is needed on CDROM. Then asks where to copy files from. If you hit cancel it will take u to the screen I described. For some reason I can't post pics of the screen from iPad.

Not a bad mother board but a bad I/o board. You have the USB ports enabled in the bios menu, right?

Make sure your bios match this...

You can do this by repeatedly hitting the DEL key while the computer is attempting to boot. Once in the bios screen make sure that these values are matching your machine. Make sure your settings match the ones below.

....main screen...
on power boot >>delete key<<
this will take u to the bios screen

std setting's as follow's
current date must be current
current time must be current

ide primary >> wdc wd200bb >20meg< this is the hard drive def for your unit..could veri
ide slave >> none
ide secondary >> master >cdrom<
ide secondary >> slave none

drive a 3.5"
drive b none

video >> ega/vga
halt on >> no error's
base mem >>640k
extened mem >> 52364
total >> 524288

....advanced....
bios flash protect >> disabled

cpu l1 & l2 cache >> enabled
quick power on self test >> fast
first boot device >> cdrom
second boot device >> hdd-0
third boot device >> floppy :we can turn this off:
boot other device >> disabled
swap floppy drive >> disabled
boot up floppy seek >> enabled :we can turn this off:
boot up numblock status >> on

that is the first 2 settings page
we skip the third and go to the 4th

......integerated peripherals......
on-chip primary pci ide >> enabled
ide primary master pio >> auto
ide primary slave pio >> auto
ide primary master udma >> auto
ide primary slave udma >> auto
on-chip secondary pci ide >> enabled
ide secondary master pio >> auto
ide secondary slave pio >> auto
ide secondary master udma >> auto
ide secondary slave udma >> auto
usb controller >> enabled <<< important >> USB will not work if disabled
usb keyboard support >> disabled
ac97 audio >> auto
ac97 modem >> auto
init display first >> agp : this is 1 of the setting's we change when using a dif video card
onboard ac97 codec >> enabled
onboard lan control >> enabled :we need this for turenne
onboard lan boot rom >> disabled :we enable it to use the lan
ide hdd block mode >> enabled : this is beacuase u may have a cable select mode, and or master/slave setting on your hd setup

that is part 4 of the bios setup

Once your values are complete try restarting the computer and see if it gets you anywhere. At that point even if it's not booting at least you are starting your diagnosis with the correct settings.

you may need to re-install. looks like your usb drivers went kaput, or the board did.

reloading software is free, i'd try that first.

I can certainly make an iso of the Rescue and 2 Installation CDs and upload them for you tomorrow at some point as I have those for Championship III.  I'm not certain what country code your dongle is for and if there would be a compatibility issue with US disks?

hi
ppl and i am not stepping on toes here as it is not my thread
but did we all miss a few point's ?
it boot's and come's back it cannot see the >i/o< card
my q would have been.
is it plugged in right?
ie the jumper from the card to the top of the tower where the usb port's are?
or are u using the usb >2< card ?
if so did u try to plug it right into the tower ?,from the i/o card to the upper usb port ?
have u tired another usb cable?

reason for this question is the i/o card will go sideway's as they are legacey

second dose it have a point on the i/o card where u can plug in a power supply point ?
like the 1's u use on a ide hard drive ?
4 pin's yellow black black red ?
as some of the older gen card's need +12 and 5+ fed to them

did not mean to hijack
just thought i would toss in 2%

Ed, not sure i follow. From what I've learned this is the I/o card I've always had and before mobo switch it was fine. It is hooked up exactly the same prior the swap. New issues, not sure of importance are: tower only turns on by powering it, not off of master on/off. Once going it goes fine through boot then goes black. W windows key I can get the error listed above about the usbui.dll missing from CDROM. Cancel that and then it goes to the shot above about usbios. Stuck here.

god holy hi-jack
sorry stpcore..

did u set the power option's to
AFTER POWER OFF TO TURN ON AUTO ?
in the bios.
it could be under POWER OPTIONS/SETTINGS/COUSTOM
if so did u set the mobo the way stpcore asked u to ?
with out touching any buttons
it should come right on
and game should load
if it fail's on the  >i/o< test it simpley mean's it is not reading the i/o card

I think your bios are fine. I have a feeling its the actual I/o board as the USB ports are enabled and everything in bios is configured correctly if you followed the prior post. If you want to do a complete fresh install with the iso images I can have those ready for you tomorrow for Championship III? That would be the last thing I can personally think to do.

Hi Simon,
You need to make sure you set ur bios exactly as STP has posted as it seems u haven't done so as u didn't have the resume state to power on.
Once this is done n still same error I agree with Ed that you may need to take out io board n reseat board as just may not be in correctly or far enough. Also try a different USB slot as suggested. If all this fails as ready mention it has to be corrupt files or bad board!
Good luck

I think it's seated if you look closely but it's hard to tell by the angle of your pic.  You will see pins coming out of the back that look like they should plug into a port but they do not.  Check out my pic...same thing.

K. From what I think I know. The only thing connected to this is the wires that I assume to be the power. This card does not have anything going into the mobo. It's just kind of floating w that one cord you can see connected to it. Where it looks like it should seat into mobo there are no "connectors". They are on the back as you suggest. Is the only that should connect to this the cable that is already there?  Just thinking if that's only power something else needs to connect to recognize it. Prolly pipe dream!

I think your i/o is different than mine because mine does sit in the mother board.  Maybe this pic will show you with more detail from a different angle.  If it's just floating plugged into the power supply then you found your problem for sure.

un-plug it
hook in the usb as i explained
and see if the green light come's  that is on the board faceing the same way as the usb and the game harness hook's in,it is there at the top of the card
u DO NOT NEED THE GAME HARNESS HOOKED FOR THIS TEST
what u are doing is finding out a few thing's

if the green light dose not come on
then your usb is NOT enabled
if it DOSE come on then your usb is ENABLED

that is fast and dirty chk for them card's
it dose not even have to be in the machine :for that test:.

now if the green light is on but it keep's coming back i/o is not be seen
then u need to look for a new card.

u ppl have to rember the i/o card has it's own mirco and eeprom

I peeked into one of my Championship III towers and it is NOT seated into the motherboard either so it must not make a difference with the gen2 i/o.  Never noticed that before.
