You need a different driver for the video card.

You can try this one if you’re not having any success;

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwcg76qn8y3hr0k/178.13_geforce_winxp_32bit_english_whql.exe?dl=0

Please don’t share a drive image with the dongle emulator installed as that will lead to multiple people having the same cabinet ID which will cause problems if people with the same cabinet ID try joining the server. Thanks.

Well in the spirit of the new year I'd like to thank everyone for the help I've received.

Over the holiday break I was able to finally convert everything over to my new PC (Dell Dimension E510). The advice, proactive help with drivers, etc. was a great thing. I moved faster than I would have anticipated without the help.

I just need to figure out the sound (downloaded the drivers but haven't yet installed) and I will be good to go.

That being said, I have a 3ghz P4 and 3x1gb sticks of ram from the old beige PC. If anyone wants / needs them just let me know. I hate to throw them out if someone in the community can use them. I received enough help here the least I can do is help someone improve their setup.

I got my PGA Tour TC running - I have video but I do not get any audio over the hdmi cable
I am using a Geforce 8800 GTS card - I have the DVI and 3.5mm audio going into a Dvi and R/L Stereo Audio to HDMI Converter

This is the one I am using:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B009GUNEAI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Video is working great but I get no audio from the HDMI

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanks

Try a different TV / monitor, that would tell you if sound is or isn't coming through the converter.

Reading the reviews suggest the converter sucks. I would try a different one as I think that's your problem.

OK I got trackball working in the diagnostics screen
BUT when I press start to start a game it goes to the play golf screen and I cannot do anything on it
After 20-30 seconds it reloads the attract mode

Restarted a few times and gets stuck after I press start to start a game
Has anyone seen that happen before?

I’ve only ever seen that when trying to use a normal mouse — not with the trackball hooked up to the nytric.  Are you sure the nytric is getting power? Is the 4 pin power hooked up to it?

Hey everyone.  new to the group.   lots of great info here.   I just picked up a PGA Tour Golf Challenge Edition.  It worked fine when i brought it home last night, but when i flipped it on this morning the picture has gone from bad to worse.   I tested another VGA cable, as well as an external monitor.  I'm figuring it has to be a bad graphics card, but want some input.    The menus load fine.  The demo has these weird boxes while it plays.   When you try to load and play a game, the screen is all pixelated and you can't make out anything.

Just wanted opinions on if this is a graphics card issue, or a software issue i need to recover.   I'm guessing the former, but any input is much appreciated.   Pictures attached for reference (sorry for the quality).

What got your trackball working? Everything in my diagnostics screen was fine, but I have same problem. Once I click start and get to the next screen I'm stuck.

My Nitric card is plugged in. I wouldn't assume it's a driver issue as I cloned the hard drive from the original when I put into this PC but I'm really stumped why it works in diagnostic but not in practice.

Hi everyone, trying to obtain the discs for Team Challenge. I replaced my video card and now receiving an error message that the memory can not be read. Also does the Facebook group still exist and is there still a server to play online. Thanks in advance.

Update (I was able to find the discs required)
Error message resolved. Once updated with discs.
Video card driver found on this forum for GeForce cards.
Game is working great.

This forum was a bit tough to navigate but using the print on the page it displayed all pages, easy to Ctrl+F to find a good amount of info.

So is there a definitive list or rough approximation of what prebuilt systems will work with this game?
I have a working team challenge and an extra cab I'm rebuilding, but it does not have the computer.

I read through 30 pages of this thread tonight and see a random post or two about a windows 8 computer and some saying you can install to sata not ide
but nothing tying OS, motherboard chipsets, etc.
The only thing I'm sure of is a geforce 5x to 9x video card which is no problem.
is anyone running newer hardware? the optiplex 280s from 2015 posts in this thread are hard to come by these days

From everything I've read it appears the only thing that matters is that video card and the nytric card. I have found the discs, dongle emulator, and video card drivers.

I thought I saw mention of PCI cards being used over AGP. There maybe something to change in bios to switch video card. Search this forum for bios settings. When I upgraded to a GeForce 7800 I just had to run the driver software. There is mention of other cards being used but looks like editing files in the Hercules folder which will take a bit more effort. Find a used GeForce on marketplace/Craigslist whatever. I picked up for $25.

For the sata I was reading something that you would clone an IDE drive as the initial sata install may fail.

If you plan to use all the discs that exist I would make sure you stick with some type of setup that supported windows XP.

There’s a really cheap USB reader on eBay that’s compatible. I don’t have the link anymore but they will on the Facebook group.

First things first - thank you all for all the help!

I have a struggle I can't seem to overcome. I migrated my hard drive and nitric card into a newer PC, everything boots and I have the right video card, drivers, everything.

My only problem is the trackball only works in the diagnostic menu. When I press the start button I get to the start menu, but I cannot move forward.

I don't have another keyboard or mouse plugged in. Only the USB that goes to the Nitric card and the USB card reader.

The I've tried the card in two different slots, I also confirmed there is power to the card via the molex connector.

I have hours into this and I'm no further. Do I need a driver for the nitric card that might be missing? I've plugged and unplugged things over and over with no luck. My original PC died and I'm trying to resurrect and save this machine. At this point if anyone has an old original computer for these machines I'll buy it. I just want to resolve this giant paperweight.

Hey guys. Just found this post. I picked up a Challenge edition for free from a storage unit. Monitor is toast and the thing was covered in tar. found that the DFi still booted and played. Has the card reader as well. ended up reading and searching and found so either forums. Was able to backup and copy a working image to be safe. Then upgraded the unit to TC with an AAP emulated dongle. Boots and am able to play but damn this hardware sucks. I tried reading thru the posts but 68 pages is ton to sift thru. I’d love to upgrade the cpu and ram and video to something else for better performance. With some trial and error with pcs I have lying around I’ve come to realize it’s not that easy to find a working combination. does anyone have a list of working hardware or suggested parts list? I’d love to be online and playing with you guys. I’ll be cutting the cab down like I did with my SSB(separate unit) and would love smooth play on 1080. I’m a GT guy and own about 15 GTs. This just seemed like a fun project and a nice change. I’m very tech savvy and can do most things with ease. I’m a little confused as I noticed AAP doesn’t give an option to ‘register’ so am I to understand AAP does NOT allow online play with the private server? and I need to emulate the TC dongle instead? here are some pics and any conversation surrounding this would be greatly appreciated. I also saw someone earlier that had the AMPlayer crashing when trying to start a game, mine did this as well until I disabled tournament in the op settings, this was with the AAP, so maybe that will help you if needed. Hope to hear from someone. And excited to play with you guys!

Hello everyone,  like a lot of people here I'm new to the game and looking to get a neglected unit playable, and online (if still possible). I have a Championship III edition that I  would like to get to Team Challenge but I only have Frankensteins monster. See Pics. Basically going to be from scratch with a new pc if I can hunt one down for cheap. The pc in there I got to boot once then nothing (power issue I think). Its a Dell 280 with a 6600 gpu (I believe) and no dongle. I looked on Global Vr website and after shipping it'll be $90+ for the recovery and install disks, then I have to emulate or find a working dongle. If anyone has a cheaper way to get these disks I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you please let me know if more pics or anything else is needed.

Edit:  got discs, loaded now freezes and reboots into attract mode after coin up and press start., any suggestions?

Looking for an invite to the FB page if it is still around.

Also I have a Championship 3 machine I am trying to get back up and running.  Followed this thread and was able to get the game installed successfully!

The only issue is when selecting a course the game freezes and I am forced to ctrl/alt/delete or restart the entire game to get it to load up again.

Looking to upgrade the PC to something newer, ive seen many responses leading towards a Dell Optiplex, but will any PC do if I need to just manually install drivers?

I have a ton a spare parts that I can move around that beefier than the current p4 1.8 that is currently in the machine.

Also dabbling the idea to upgrading it to the team challenge to play online with everyone if that is still going strong?

Any suggestions would be rad.

Thanks!

SO figured out my hard drive was probably the culprit as it just died on me while trying to get everything to load up again on the old DFI.

I am currently in the process of installing everything to a new computer with a Celeron 2.8ghz processor, 4gb ram, 60gb ssd, and a 8800 gtx.

The issue I am having is the recovery disk doesn't boot up now.

I went ahead and installed Windows XP SP3 and then tried to load the software and it also errors out(iKernel.exe cannot be installed).

I tried to install Windows XPE stand alone and couldn't get it to open from boot as well.  Keep getting error code 14 ntoskrnl.exe could not be loaded.

Any help with some fresh eyes would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Got everything setup on XPE, have all drivers installed, however when I try to run the game I keep getting an error message.

Cannot find file, you must reinstall.

I have reinstalled like 10 times and still have same issue.

Any ideas?

This is for team challenge.

so after tons of trial and error, I found a reliable reinstall path, to most newer hardware. Maybe I’ll get around to making a chekc kist. But here is a quick run down.
Extract the .pqi image from the Gvr restore iso.
Using Norton ghost I was able to make a ‘recover’ image that has the base .pqi
Booting to the ghost recovering drive you can restore an SSD with the base image.
Make sure to leave a larger spare partook for a future install of a diff os.
once booted you’ll have a ton of can’t find drivers msgs. Ignore them all
now install the TC disks. There is an AIO or the 3 disk pack. Both work.
After install, you’ll need driver magician from internet archive. This will install and run on the
xp embedded os
Run this and backup the driver for the SDK card reader.
now you can restart and boot to a windows install. I went with vista ultimate 32b.
after install and boot to vista, you need to find all the vista drivers for this install. Internet updates won’t work.
After all desired drivers are found(from a working computer) now you can update the software driver for the usb SDK card reader.
next, your gonna need Laplink PCmover, this is excellent for migrating all the stuff from the original install partition.
use advanced options and go thru them. They will make sense if you’ve made it this far.
the password for the cabinet user is ‘cabinet’
after migration, go thru the nee user setup crap.
Now you’ll need to run the hhp hasp driver installer. then you can run the hasp emulator stuff
pretty much after this, you’ll good to go.
You can navigate the system with the keyboard except play the game. Mouse works to move around. And keyboard for buttons. But those are disabled during an actual game.
S - start
F - flyby-back
J - turn left
L - turn right
K - down or ‘next’
I- up or previous.
shoot me a dm if you need some help. we can connect on discord or something.

Got everything setup on XPE, have all drivers installed, however when I try to run the game I keep getting an error message.

Cannot find file, you must reinstall.

I have reinstalled like 10 times and still have same issue.

Any ideas?

This is for team challenge.

I have the same issue trying to install on a new pc build. I don't know which files are missing after install. Any help would be awesome as ive ran out of ideas.

Can anyone help me or at least educate me a bit. Long story short my friends Team challenge MOBO died and ive been given the task to get it all operational again. Just a few questions as I am completely stuck. Ive tried installing the game through Virtual Box windows XP but after install it says I am missing files please re install. Is there a way to fix this as I have the SRD and install disks and Nytic card. If I were to purchase a old Dell 280 360 or 780 why would that work as I have read through the forums that this is a option? Is that a driver issue or hardware issue? Can this be installed on a newer PC running XPE? Lastly can anyone point me in the right direction for which drivers are needed to run this game. Ive built plenty of MAME arcades before and repaired a few but trying to get this going is like pulling my teeth out so I would appreciate any help thank you all.

Hey team - I'm stuck.

I migrated my build into a new PC. I have the game up and running and all the drivers. It's a newer (but still old) Dell PC.

Everything is running well. I have the video card, drivers, HASP emulator - all good. My problem though is this:

I can press the start button and get to the main menu, but once there nothing else works until it reboots back to the attract menu.

Everything works in the diagnostic menu. The nitric card shows up with a green light. The molex connector is connected.

Nothing else is plugged in (no keyboard or mouse - there isn't even a PS2 connector if I wanted to use the ones that came with).

I have hours into this and I'm no further. Do I need a driver for the nitric card that might be missing? I've plugged and unplugged things over and over with no luck.

Should I be looking at different computer to run this? If anyone has an old PC that ran the game I'd buy it. At this point I just feel lost trying to keep this thing going.
