mame32 "stretch using hardware" not working
« on: April 14, 2002, 12:01:29 am »
I have an Intel 82810 Graphics card running under Win98 where I can't get the Mame32 "stretch using hardware" to work.  At first, the option was grayed out.  I installed the latest graphics driver, now the option is not grayed, but when I enable it, launching any game causes the screen to go blank.  Unchecking this option allows all games to run, but with varying sizes on screen.

This happens in both Mame32 analog v.58  and Mame32 v.59.

Anyone have any luck with this card?   Otherwise, I may have to run a couple of Mame32 executables, one with 640x480 and no "switch resolutions to fit" and another with that option selected.  This is the only way I've been successful in getting most games to fill the screen on my 21" monitor.

My last resort may be to restore WinXP on this eMachines box and hope for the best with those drivers.  I initially blew away XP and installed 98 due to many complaints I've read about XP.  However, I just read a post here that claims some folks are running Mame32 just fine under XP.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure to reinstall the latest Direct X drivers.  When I recently updated my video card drivers the option for hardware stretch was grayed out in MAME32 but reinstalling Direct X took care of the problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try, and cross my fingers.  Otherwise, I'll be editing the properties of each game individually, with thanks to the idea by urebelscum.  It'll be painful, but it'll work.

You're a genius.  Although I had installed the latest DirectX I downloaded from Microsoft recently, something must not have gone correctly.  I just installed my arcade accurate version of Dragon's Lair (which I highly recommend), and it gave me the option to install DirectX 8.0.  Although mine I recently installed was newer, I opted to install 8.0, and now my hardware stretching is working correctly.  Thanks again for the idea.  The cabinet is really looking impressive now.
