Another idea for running the power cable can be to pull back your carpet and cut a small channel in the underlay then a small slit in the carpet itself. Remove plug off cable and thread through carpet in underlay channel, this way now no hump in carpet where cable is...

Yeah that would work quite well, but if you want to move the table your a bit stuck with a cable stuck out the carpet.

Well you'd pull the cable out and you'd be left with a small slit in the carpet, not ideal I agree...
