Taste Just Like Candy
brad808:
This is what I'm currently working on cleaning up and fixing to be a proper multi cabinet. Came with gundan dx z, I basically have no idea what any of the menus are but it's an alright game to play even without knowing japanese.
I already have a stand up mame cabinet so I'm making this one my "just for me" cabinet, even though it'll be in my kitchen where anyone can play it ???. Thankfully I have my own house so nobody can tell me where not to put cabinets ;) When the girlfriend came over she said she didn't mind it because its smaller then the rest of my toys. It won't have a ton of games on it like my Mortal kombat 2 mame, just what I want to play at a particular time. My goal here is to make this cabinet easy to swap games in and out as well as a few systems.
This thing was filthy so it needed a good bath before coming into my place.
I literally took every single piece possible off this guy and scrubbed it with a toothbrush to get it to a respectable level.
Took out the ms9-29 and put in a nice 31khz I had sitting around. Wasn't a direct replacement though I had to remove the tube and chasis of both and exchange the metal cage for it to fit correctly.
Probably could use a cap kit at some point but no rush.
These are the 3 systems I currently have for it:
Atomiswave:
Namco 246 C (came with the cab and gundam). I need to remove it from its wood so I can copy it a few times to mount my other systems on to make them easy to swap in and out.
PC: I5 3570k, for some emulation
Once I save up some more cash I'll be grabbing sfII - champion edition and mushihimesama futari. Beyond that I haven't planned.
Ordered 2 new white ls32 and 12 white sanwa buttons with clear rims, 2 black sanwa buttons with clear rims. I have no immediate plans for a two player setup but I figured I would just order them and have them around in case I decide to at a later point. Didn't decide on anything to light leds yet.
Haven't fully decided on how I plan on wiring this yet, would seem smart to run jamma but with all the different systems I'm highly considering just doing custom connector that connects in the cabinet and every system will be made self contained and custom to match my cabinet. The sfII board will need a video converter somewhere down the line before the new monitor but the atomiswave, pc and namco 246 all support vga output.

I should also probably mention that it is back together and operational right now I just don't have any pictures of that. If anybody knows where to buy the male side of the control panel plugs (joystick, buttons) that would be good too as I will need to buy two of those

I want a candy cab bad. Should be fun for you :)

Here are a few things off the top of my head for incorporating games that would be found in a candy cab.
Most of the vertical Taito Type X games don't like running on a horizontal monitor.
Howard Costa made some wrappers. http://dragonking.arcadecontrols.com/ (under misc downloads)
People have had varying success depending on the game and their hardware.
Some of them refused to run at the same time as my front-end, so I had to use an autohotkey script that closed my front-end, launched the game, then relaunched my front-end on exit. It works, but I'm still working out the splash images to hide everything during the transitions.
I probably spent my entire day off work on it, but I have every single one of them working on my new cab. ;D
For NAOMI games, I ended up using Makaron for Dead or Alive Millenium, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, & most of the shmups.
It may have been my processor, but they just ran better using Makaron than Demul. If it's NAOMI 1 and it doesn't work right in Demul, try it on Makaron. I'm using 12.7, but the download of it is missing a lot of documentation, so you may want to grab 12.5 also. It's a PITA to set up if you haven't followed dknute's blog through it's development. His releases weren't really made with public consumption in mind. You get whatever state it was in when he was working on it and felt like releasing it. I'm grateful he shared it. The roms are probably a PITA to find as originally he used .dat files and then switched to MAME roms for most games. I guess look at the date of release and see which MAME version was current at that time. My collection is a messed up assortment of both that I acquired at the time the emulator was released, but they all work.
There are some autohotkey scripts in the software forum I wrote for launching vertical games on a horizontal monitor in Makaron. Search for "autohotkey fun". They need some tweaking. They work fine on the PC I wrote them on, but on my arcade setup, they probably fail to black out the window frame 20% of the time (the desktop is still blacked out). I'm sure with some tweaking they'd be more consistent.
The other PITA thing with Makaron is that the games will fail to launch unless the screen orientation and number of players is set up correctly in the service menu. Makaron doesn't save that individually for each game. If you change it in one game, it will be wrong for another game.
I ended up with four Makaron folders. 1Pvert, 2Pvert, 1PHor, 2PHor.
It's a hassle, but worth it IMO if the games don't run as well as you'd like in Demul.
Wow, I rambled a lot for no question being asked. :lol
I'll shut up now.
Let me know if you hit any roadblocks.
HaRuMaN:
The plugs you are looking for most likely be either Tyco / AMP UP or JST connectors.
