GUI control using USB gamepad
« on: April 26, 2002, 02:27:12 pm »
Im am trying to build a Mame cabinet using USB gamepad hack.  I have a few USB gamepads lying around (5 actually) and think this would be the cheapest way to go.  Is there any way to get MAME32 to use direct input for GUI controls?  or any other front end that can be controlled by gamepads?  I have used a few frontend that let you move the mouse with the joystick but most were very frustrating and akward.  I just want to be able to scroll through the game like using the arrow keys and press a button to start.  Sounds simple enough...  Thank for any advice

-Brandon

all of the fe's round these parts will do that for ya....
as a matter of fact the mame 32 gui has built in joystick support as well, but you have to add a command line switch to the shortcut. i don't know it off hand but check your documentation.

Thanks Howard,   I knew there had to be a way of doing that easily.  I guess I've just been having operator error :)

I just tried the -dijoygui and -joygui commands that used to be in an older version of MAME32 (ver 37) but now it seems as though they have taken it out or changed the command to something else>  When I use the command now MAME32 wont even start.  I get the hourglass for a sec then it stops and thats it....hmm....
there is nothing about it in the support docs so I guess maybe its just been taken out, Although I cant imagine why...

The commandline options worked for me in v58, can't tell you about v59 though.
