A long shot...
« on: April 28, 2002, 02:26:34 pm »
Hi all,

I'm looking for the name of a game that I used to play in 1986/7 when Gauntlet was the popular game.

It was based on four players in the future battling aliens in a horizontal platform layout.  Just like Gauntlet, health was increased by feeding the coin slot and each player had a unique weapon/armour etc.

Does anyone out there know what I am talking about?  ???

Regards

Nick.W

I agree with big10p.  Sounds like Quartet to me also.

Thank you both  :D

That's the game.  I think my memories have over hyped it though  : :-/

Playing single player in Quartet 2 doesn't quite have that magnetic quality anymore and for some unknown reason Mame32 gives memory errors when trying to run Quartet.

Oh well, 18 years ago it was enjoyable.

I had the exact same feeling.  When I saw it in the WIP pages of MAME I was SO EXCITED!  But playing it really didn't do much for me afterwards.

I think it's a blast with 4 players... but kinda sucks in 1 player mode.  I haven't tried it recently with a group (wife doesn't like my arcade machine... so have to wait for friends to come over).

I think I will give it one more chance before I drop my favorite lists

LOL Yeah, it can be a bit disappointing when games dont look/play half as good as you remember. However, I find using a 'proper' display (arcade monitor or TV) makes all the difference - games come back to life  :)
