Cleaning a console
« on: October 13, 2003, 03:01:24 pm »
My "new" dreamcast is starting to give me problems.  I can't get it boot up a bunch of games now...

Some will if I try over and over again.  I'm pretty sure that it's just dirty.

Should I take the case off it to clean?
Should I use rubbing alcohol?

Although this has not happened on either of my DC's I've herd a lot of people having this problem.  One fix mentioned is to adjust the laser intensity via a small pot under the laser module.  Turning it slightly can either increase the laser gain or reduce it.  Here is an old thread on it on dcemulation site (sorry the pics are gone, but you can still get the general idea).

Sadly I haven't had a chance to clean it yet.  My wife has been pissed at me in the last week about spending time on my cabinets... (I'm soooo close to getting my sitdown cab workign... and just sitting at parts on the floor.... grrrr)

But I will try both!  I don't know if I still have the cd cleaner cd.   But I think there is one around.

But I don't have to worry about it more then any other CD player?

Thanks for the laser info!
