How do I get perfect vsync scrolling with DOS MAME
« on: May 03, 2002, 06:22:11 pm »
Hi

Example of my problem: Pac-Man (and others) have a refresh of 60.606060 but I can't create a video mode with this EXACT refresh using the advanceMAME tool mv.exe, so the game doesn't run completely smoothly using vsync.

Is there a way I can get games to just vsync properly to a near-but-not-exact refresh rate of say, 61.00? The Windows commandline version of MAME has a 'matchrefresh' option that does this but the DOS version doesn't. Very frustrating :(

If not, how are you guys creating custom refresh modes that match the original games exactly?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, you can either use AdvanceMAME to specifically set up that mode / refresh, mess with SDD's DOS TSR (I don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a shot), or you can just recompile MAME to run it @ 60Hz.

Like I say, the advanceMAME mode generator wont let me create a refresh mode of 60.606060 exactly, only 60.60 which isn't acurate enough to give me totally smooth scrolling etc.

Oh well, maybe I'll start using the Windows commandline version of MAME instead - if I can find a way of creating custom modes for that.

Thanks anyways  ;)
