x-box pad hacking question...
« on: October 09, 2003, 03:56:23 pm »
so,thinking about hacking a madcatz x-box pad.
Anyone got any link to any sites with more info.

Its for someone else.
I gotta solder on the soulder(spelling?) buttons as well. Are they anything like dreamcast pads ? ?
pressure sensetive ?

Which pad would be the easiest ?
I am thinking madcatz but never know.
Thanks in advance.  8)

Hi snaaake....

I hacked a couple of those madcatz pads....

the smaller size one (the blue one) in my opinion is easier to hack... (after the hack, everything is still working....)

the larger one is harder to hack....
(I'm able to hack it but a couple of buttons on the pad is screwed....) which means I can ONLY use it as a hack....

http://www.geocities.com/hyiu2/pics/gaming/

click on the xbox*.jpg....

sorry.... I'm stupid enough not to take any pics inside....

but since I've cable tied everything and its working fine... if not needed, I would not want to open it just to take pics....

ps:  for the hack, I use those ribben cables to solder to the circuit board.... and then connect the ribbon cables to cat5 cables... (cat5 cable is too thick to solder directly on to the pad....)

let me know if you want more details...

ps: I've opened a MSFT original xbox pad....
from what I see... those are harder to hack than the madcatz....

and shoulder buttons......  the madcatz shoulder buttons has 3 wires... (cos its analog...) but you can just use 2 and it'll act like its pressed all the way.... (I believe its the middle one with one of the other one... you'll just have to try it out...)

I snagged this xbox pad hack link out of the project announcements forum.

http://www.geocities.com/armad1ll0/systems/Xbox_stick.htm

Definately post how it goes, I got a couple flaky madkatz controller that should make a great donor interface for my xbox if I ever get around to.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

oh... forgot to mention... the direction UDLR... madcatz already has a ribbon cable connecting them....

so... just need to add a wire to each solder point....
(those are easy....)

just the buttons are harder in comparsion...
