Console Controllers on Parallel Port (yeah yeah, I know)
(1/1)
mgb:
I'm building a PC that I will be playing a lot of classic console emulation on as well as some more modern pc games. It is Windows 7 64 Bit.

I want to use original controllers.
I know there are usb adaptors out there for the controllers I want to use but I kinda just wanna get a $12 Parallel port PCI card and make a classic port panel.

I'm just curious if anyone knows of any lag issues and what not with using this set up. I would tend to think its probably more stable than some of the usb adaptors on the market.
I know Parallel ports are used much now a days, is there any reason to believe they will have issues with Win7, I know I will need the proper drivers.
BobA:
I have a ROM burning card of older vintage that needs the parallel port.   I could not get a version of software for the parallel port burner that will run on win 7.   Have to use XP to use the rom burner.  Something about Win 7 makes the software difficult to implement.

BadMouth:
I haven't been able to get my parallel port working for other things (monitor rotation) in Vista 64 due to all the permissions/driver signature BS.
Neither the one on the motherboard and a add-on PCI card.

It's been accomplished by others, but some of the tutorials include disclaimers that a windows update has since killed the workarounds.  :banghead:

Not sure what the parallel port input on ppjoy requires, but expect these kind of issues.
mgb:
Well maybe I will just play it safe and go usb adaptor.

i have used win7 32 with no problem, you just use the xp compatibility mode, but it dosnt work on 64 bit version of w7...
