WTB Positional guns - BOUGHT!
« on: September 04, 2012, 03:16:12 pm »
<edit> Snatched a working set of Beast Buster guns off fleabay for under $50 for both.  I BIG WINNA!

Looking for a pair of positional guns.  Frankly I don't even need them with the guns, just the mount with post would work fine as I'll likely redo the guns anyway.  I'm not picky about which game they are from.  Let me know if you have something crowding a closet and want to give it a new home.  Thanks!

I have one brand new T2 gun. I paid $150. The trigger is sticky but is brand new.

Make me an offer--  (I'll gladly take your mini Star Wars!  :afro:)
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

You're adorable.  STNG Pin for the Micro.  8)

Just one gun huh?  Tempting, I'll see what else pops, I'm looking at a few others but might come crawling back.

Well technically I have 2- one that I built for my mame cab (also a brand new gun).

I cut off the original wiring I think though----
Here's a link to that old project.

I would part with it though it you needed the 2 guns (now I'll take the SW and Tron!).  :dizzy:

I'm starting to get some traction on that spinner interface on the TRON btw so that will get done eventually as well  ;)

I don't want to deprive you just yet, that said that's an awesome setup, had forgotten that one.  I was just going to wire into my U-HID but the joyhack is a good idea as well if I run out of inputs.

I have a pair from Beast Busters.

The range of motion left to right was too limited for my screen size & CP depth, but there is plenty of room in the gearing if you wanted to move the stops.
I lost interest in the project due to the limited number of positional gun games and the fact that I have another huge 2 handed gun from Wild Pilot that's more fun.  ;D
(If anyone has another one of those, I'd be interested)

The protection diode on the recoil solenoids are blown from me guessing wrong as to which way to hook them up, but the solenoids both work.
One of the potentiometers was replaced with a "radio shack looking" one before I got it, but it seems to work fine.

Will post pics tonight if I get time.
I'll have to give some thought about how much I want for them.
They're pretty heavy, so shipping is going to add quite a bit.

Oh, be wary of Operation Wolf guns and a few others from around that time periodd.
They look just like positional guns, but were actually light guns.
There aren't any pots or gears or anything in them.  :P

Thanks BM, I might have a set on the way by tonight but I'll let you know.  Anybody made any good progress on joy to mouse sensitivity in MAME for using P-guns on L-gun games that you know of?

PBJ, you're a peach.  My small kids love positional gun games because they can actually survive vs with light guns they tend to wander all over.  You're gluestick solution is sage indeed.

If you're talking about using the joy to mouse program, it's not necessary as MAME can use joystick input just fine.

1.  Calibrate the positional gun in windows by pointing it along the edges of the screen.
2.  In mame.ini set the dead zone to zero.
3.  In mame.ini set the saturation to 1 (100%)
4.  Calibrate the gun in the game's service menu
5.  Adjust the sensetivity under analogue controls in MAME's in-game menu until the crosshairs don't lag behind the gun movement.
(there is only ONE sensetivity setting, ignore all settings that include the word DIGITAL)

Model 2 emulator only accepts mouse input.  I haven't found a good solution for it.
Joy to Mouse and other programs I've tried work, but not smoothly.
It's as if the crosshairs are on a grid, snapping from point to point.
You can generally hit all the targets, but the jerky movement and the inability to put the crosshairs exactly where I want (between points on the grid), ruins the experience.

So bottom line is MAME LG games work great with a properly calibrated positional gun (great aside from having a real lightgun on a CRT) but not at all (currently) for Supermodel?  I think I can live with that.  Thanks for the clarification!

They don't work well with Model 2 emulator, which does suck.
(Gunblade NY, Rail Chase 2, Behind Enemy Lines for positional gun games.... Virtua Cop, House of the Dead, etc for light gun games)

They work fine in Supermodel and there are a few positional gun games, but emulation needs to progress further.
I think Jurassic Park: Lost World is playable with some fog issues, but I haven't tried it with the gun.
Ocean Hunter and LA Machineguns are the other ones I can think of, but they are currently too glitchy to play.

I'm just waiting for Deadstorm Pirates, my kids love that game.  Ocean Hunter is a good one, and similar, need to wait on it like you said.

So you're saying that the positional gun games in M2emu don't work well with positional guns because they mapped it for mice?

Yes, and I've found no way to use analogue input instead.
If you do use a workaround like joy to mouse, you still have the problem of player 2's gun not working.

It's frustrating because for positional gun games, the mouse input is a hack anyway.
It would have been easier to just use analogue inputs like the original.
Somewhere along developement, there was probably a version that did use analgue inputs.
I haven't tried any version older than v.9
I guess it's possible than one of the older versions does have analogue inputs for the positional gun games.  hmmmm

I have a couple of T2 guns available if the other guy doesn't come through.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Thanks Paige. I've got two beast buster guns inbound that I scored for less than $50 for the pair. We will see how that works out. If not so well I'll hit you up. Hopefully I can retrofit the shell to something a bit more Han Solo-ish.

I'm also looking for an arcade positional gun if someone has one for a decent price.

If you're just looking for a single PM mamemaster, badmouth, or paige - all had good offers when I was hunting.  That said I lucked out on fleabay and got mine for a song.  Watch the auctions.
