So i get that MK had 5 buttons in a cross + 1, which equals 6. so still not sure why the 7th button?
Is it simply because you are used to hitting run with your thumb? As someone who only played MK on the Sega console, that would not bother me so I can stick with the 6.
thanks

This is basically the conclusion that I came to. First time I did my control panel was 7 button, when I redid it I said screw it and went with the classic "street fighter" layout with only 6 buttons. This was at a time when me and 3 or so of my friends were playing a ton of mortal kombat and none of them seemed to mind, simply moved the run up to the bottom middle.

Cool, i think on the basis of keeping it simple I will do the same.
BTW: as you've done that, how does one permanently change the standard key layout? I know you can do it by hitting tab and "input (this game)", however if one doesn't want to do that every time?
thanks guys for the answers so far, and great vid. i checked 2.20 and I am alive, however my parents never let me go to the arcades. Now I am nearly 40 I am making up for it ;D

Set everything up in Input (General). Whenever you load a game for the first time it will default the controls with those settings. If you've already played, it won't use the General settings. Clear out the files in your CFG folder and that should solve the problem even on games you've played.
