Thinking about using acrylic for cocktail cabinet top

Unstupid:
I'd still stick with the on-line merchants over the local glass shop because the ones you get on-line are usually tempered which makes it 4-5 times more durable and a lot safer incase it does crack.  Your local shop may be able to temper it for you but make sure you ask for it!

When I went through this dilemma last year, I called about 4 different local glass shops around here.  I didn't get a single quote for less than $100, and even more if you wanted it tempered.  I'm not sure where you guys are able to find a local glass shop to do custom work for you for a mere $50.  I ended up getting this tempered glass top for $59 + shipping (well worth it):

acrylic scratches way to fast , its sensitive to alcohol and other ingredients of cleaning fluids and collects dust. i usually take floatglas 6-8 mm for cocktail tables . a glas plate of 50x50 or 60x60 cm will cost around 20-25 euros with polished edges . u dont need tinted safety glas in ur private rooms .

You swayed me, especially when it comes to hearing the market price of this stuff from all of you. Thanks for everyone's input.
