Thinking about using acrylic for cocktail cabinet top

I've seen that quite a few people use a glass top for their cocktail cabinet. I have been eyeing the possibility of using acrylic. Has anyone done this before? Is it a bad idea? Why or why not?

Unstupid:

Why not?  Scratches!  ;)

Just seems a little expensive to throw down $80 for a piece of glass:

Yea $80 is about right.... Shipping these is problematic (especially to Hawaii) which is why I ended up paying $200 for 2.  It is worth it though.  No scratches and no sagging.  If you want to really do it right Phoenix arcade has Screened Glass like they did on the real Ms Pac tables!  $225 a pop: http://www.phoenixarcade.com/art.htm#MsPAC

Most local glass shops will cut you a piece to shape. That's what I did, it was around $50. I definitely would not use acrylic for a cocktail, the scratches would drive me insane.
