apparently everyone says they want more pinball, but are too lazy to do anything about it.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Actually, this thread has turned into more of a "fix the :censored: wiki logins" thread instead of the original VP/FP entry update.

Apparently the problem is finding someone that Saint trusts and that has the IT skills to apply the patches from Github.

Sirwoogie -- the guy Saint trusts -- has only logged on once this year. :badmood:

Spoot: The Man of Action.   :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

Hope you don't mind that I've already defaced updated the Wiki a bit.  :lol

Would it be OK if we also add in the Wiring, Yoke Rebuild, and (new addition) BYOAC FAQ wiki pages so people can update those entries as well?

Maybe a section at bottom of the Main Page for "Temp BYOAC Wiki Pages".   ;D

Slightly late 15-month bump.
Any progress, Saint?   :badmood:

Well, kudos to folks for taking action into their own hands. Life is not giving me much time to tend to BYOAC these days :( I just came in here to post this link http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/ to show I wasn't quite dead. You guys want me to keep going with it or give it up?  It requires separate authenticated logons from the SMF forum.

Seperate logins is no problem. For reading it is most convenient if it doesn't require login anyway.

I'm willing to help out as admin for the Wiki (I'm guessing Scott will be as well?)

btw. the link isn't working for me.

It's a new DNS entry as of today so if you have cached DNS somewhere it might not be propagated. It's working for me at work and home, anyone else?  There's nothing there yet, I just got it installed today. Have to do whatever fine tuning and tweaking it needs next.

I'm not sure PL1 is speaking to me... He's not gotten a lot of reliable feedback from me on this. To him and anyone else I apologize. I'll continue to keep BYOAC going as long as people are logging on and using it, but my active administration has been almost nil these last few months. I'm not much for sharing my personal details but it's been a kind of hard year+ for me, so BYOAC has been on autopilot. I seem to have time and motivation for now though, so I'd like to get the wiki functional to the point where it doesn't depend on me.

Right now I'm working on copying stuff over from the old wiki to the new. Got the main page and am copying over the templates.

I also have configured the old wiki so it can be edited anonymously. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the bottom. Did it so people can copy/paste from the edit box for any particular page to the new wiki. That's how I'm copying the templates over now.

Felsir and/or PL1, I'm not actually entirely clear what admin access on a wiki means vs allowing any authenticated user to edit pages. Will attempt to figure that out next.

I'm not sure PL1 is speaking to me.
Thought the problem was that I never stopped speaking to you.   :laugh2:

We're good, John.

I may nudge you monthly to keep the subject from falling by the wayside, but there's no hate on this end. (You may hate me for it, but that's another story.   :lol)

my active administration has been almost nil these last few months.

To the extent that I can, I'd like to help.

My skills are more content editing/creation than administrative, but if there's a checklist/directions to follow . . .  ;D

I also have configured the old wiki so it can be edited anonymously. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the bottom. Did it so people can copy/paste from the edit box for any particular page to the new wiki. That's how I'm copying the templates over now.
That will probably bite you in the backside in just a few weeks when spambots find the new wiki.

Spoot had to shut off automated account creation and tweak several other settings to stop spammers from parking content on user and unlinked pages -- easy to spot when you only have 2 real contributors and 4 pages to the wiki, but much harder with the complexity/volume of the BYOAC wiki.

IMHO the best approach is something like what was proposed earlier in the thread:
- Separate logins for Forums and Wiki.
- Archive changes enabled to allow easy rollbacks if needed.
- Select a mod/mods to handle a WikiMod account similar to the way the UCA (User Choice Award) account works now.
- Users PM the WikiMod account to establish a login with the same username as in the forums. (modded username if the "underscore bug" is a problem?)
- WikiMod sets up login and sends confirmation PM with temp password.

Felsir and/or PL1, I'm not actually entirely clear what admin access on a wiki means vs allowing any authenticated user to edit pages. Will attempt to figure that out next.
Spoot and Felsir would know better than I on this.   :dunno

Leave it wide open. I'm sure Scott will clean up any vandalism.

Saint -- you may want to try using the "transwiki import" function described at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Import.

Looks like you can import all templates, pages and files from one wiki to another.   :dunno

Older timestamp iles with the same filename are overwritten, newer timestamp files are left unchanged.

Yes, the import function is the easiest solution.
Not sure if there are version issues- but I think those would be more related to content (depricated tags stuff like that) which are things that had to be manually reworked anyway.

Great, I've made an account on the new Wiki.

Is the import completed (still a lot of red links)? There are a lot of outdated pages/links so I'll add a category of "pages to check" so we can systematically verify content.

Friends and Neighbors, is this a good time to inquire about mirroring member projects?  Who knows why a website link goes dead, but I wonder if the offer to mirror the site here is still open?

Quite excited to see movement on this.  Huzzah and such!

Would love to see projects mirrored.

I've moved everything over I think, except images, as of this post. The export on the images isn't working. Ack. May have to manually process those, and that'll be a mammoth job. Still working on that though.

I was hoping to use the missing pages link on the new wiki to see what I needed to move still, but there are a lot of missing pages on the old wiki so it's not as useful as I'd hoped.

Old wiki missing 148 pages: http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/w/index.php?title=Special:WantedPages&limit=500&offset=0

New wiki missing 138 pages: http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=Special:WantedPages&limit=500&offset=0

I haven't gone through them yet to see why the odd discrepancy but I think it's the old wiki listing wikipedia pages as missing while the new wiki doesn't.

I'll also sift through the wiki over the course of next week. A lot of info is outdated so a cleanup action will be needed.
Today is Sinterklaas (Dutch Santa Claus tradition) with family festivities so I won't be online that much for a couple of days.

Pinball entry updated and FAQ entry created.

Pics uploaded for Yoke Rebuild and Wiring since I already had those saved on a HDD.

I think that covers all the updates/changes made on Spoot's Pinwiki.   ;D

Thank you for updating the Yoke page.  My shelf full of Star Wars Parts thanks you.

Thank Major Rock Hardy who did the original writeup / pics in 2007, Le Chuck who updated portions of the text last year, and lcmgadgets who provided the new pic and slightly updated text based on his recent rebuild here.
