Joystick vs keyboard interfaces and non-MAME games

I was planning to have admin buttons seperate from the main panel using a seperate keyboard encoder.  That's why originally I was thinking joystick encoders for the player controls and a keyboard encoder for admin stuff.  Basically trying to get the best of both worlds.

Although the joystick ID issue is making me question this plan (although I know there's a util for a way around that problem...).

PL1:

Degenatron's AVR encoders are a great way to do modular using multiple keyboard-style encoders -- without breaking the bank.  Since you have pinball flipper buttons IIRC, set the admin one to Mode 5 (Pinball), one to Mode 2 (P1 MAME), and the other to Mode 3 (P2 MAME).

There are thousands of PC games with all kinds of arbitrary control limitations and the newer ones are much worse than the older ones are.
