What annoys Star Wars fans?
« on: August 01, 2012, 10:40:58 am »
When I meet someone who is into Star Trek, I like to mess with them by constantly saying Star Track.

Star Wars fans seem more plentiful and more dedicated.
What can I do to annoy them?

Tell them Han Solo shot second.
Tell them you like JarJar.
Tell them Episodes 1-3 are your favorite.

Ask George Lucas. He's perfected the art.

Everyone just get a copy of Harmy's Despecialized Edition.  After getting the episode 4 one, I won't watch anything else now.  Need to get the other episodes.

The comments pertaining to specifics would imply that I watched the movies more than once or that I give a crap.  >:D

EDIT: Guess I'll just talk about how grateful they must be to have prequels and remakes.  :lol

That was good.  ;D

The Star Wars builds (which are all awesome) currently at the top of the Project Announcements forum got me thinking about it.
It would be fun to do a Star Wars build with subtle things done wrong on purpose (artwork, incorrect quotes, etc).  >:D
Already have more projects than I'll be able to finish this year though.  :banghead:

I had some guys at work that were into their "action figures" like on their desks.

They also sucked at their jobs.

They used to get geeked out when I told them I got cardboard action figures  when I was a kid at Christmas, as the Star Wars toys were not out yet.

Are those cardboard things worth anything now?

I always remind Star Wars fans that their beloved "franchise" is really just a mere trilogy of films with everything else being so mind-numbingly bad that fans refuse to admit it's existance, while Star Trek has made 8 films, an animated series, 4 spin-offs and over 700 episodes..... none of which are as complete an embarrassment as episode I.  That and the fact that it's a "main stream" franchise and thus you really aren't that nerdy/geeky if you are into it.

That'll do it.   ;)

Telling a star wars fan that they are not a nerd for liking Star Wars really irks them? I don't think too many SW fans are looking to gain nerd cred.

"Star Wars was the "Go Bots" to the Star Trek's "transformers" Then duck. "

"Pretty sure Jaba ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- Leia. I see, so she was a slave but sex wasn't on the table, just sexy outfits for reason."

"Pretty much The Hero with a Thousand Faces rebooted."

If you're at a Comic Con and they are dressed up as characters ask them if they are from the movie "Heavy Metal" or some other ---smurfy--- movie

Han didn't even shoot. he was jerking off and his gun went off.

As I've gotten older I've enjoyed Heavy Metal more, though it does depress me to hear John Candy's voice.  When I saw it at ~16 it was all "ZOMG! ANIMATED BUSH!" but I've grown to appreciate the nihilism with age.

 :dunno

 :laugh2:

I think I was 16 when I saw it as well.

See if you can't find "Kirkless Generations" on the web.  It makes for a much better movie--almost like an extended episode from the series, and it's also a very impressive technical feat, cutting an entire arc out of a movie and still having it flow.

I have never understood why people have to be into either Star Wars or Star Trek.  The rivalry thing is the most annoying aspect of both of them.

I have never understood why people have to be into either Star Wars or Star Trek.  The rivalry thing is the most annoying aspect of both of them.

I think there are a couple of different dynamics at play. First, Star Wars is totally mainstream. Almost every guy likes the original trilogy. Star Trek (and the people who like it), on the other hand, is ridiculed by the cool kids. But the people who watch it are like, "What's wrong with you people? Star Trek shares all of Star Wars's good qualities, but Star Trek is a smarter, superior franchise that more consistently turns out entertaining movies (not to mention hundreds upon hundreds of good TV episodes). How can you make fun of Star Trek in one breath and adore Star Wars in the next?" In other words, the Star Trek fan's Star Wars hate is more-or-less a defense mechanism.

The other thing, which is related to the first sort of, is that it's often not an either/or thing, but a comparative thing. Star Trek fans almost unanimously like Star Wars original trilogy. They may think Star Trek is better, but they still have a deep affection for Star Wars. It's only a very small minority of Star Trek fans who think that Star Wars is total garbage. The opposite isn't true, of course, but that may have to do with the stigma of Star Trek. Many people have no desire to give it a chance because it's so dorky. And, while Star Trek is great, the culture that has developed around it couldn't possibly be more embarrassing, so the stigma is sort of earned. But, at any rate, rather than an either/or thing, it's often more like a chocolate/vanilla thing. Just because you think chocolate is the best doesn't mean you don't like vanilla ice cream.

I'm about the same.  I'm 37 and just watched The Empire Strikes Back for the first time a few months ago.
It just happened to be on TV as I was flipping channels.  I didn't realize that I hadn't seen it until I watched it for a bit.   :lol

I haven't seen any of the newer ones.  (don't watch many movies)

I'm sure I've seen spaceballs a couple dozen times.

I couldnt get into the original star trek, it just a little too cheesy for me, a victim of the technology of when it was made (of course, the beaming up effect is still pretty neat). I actually liked ST:TNG for a while but I sorta fell out of love with it before it ended. I never really gave any of the other STs a chance, but I did enjoy the recent movie.

As far as Star Wars..... I think the thing with Star Wars is the idea of Star Wars is awesome. Force powers, light sabers, speeders, and all that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, its just so cool. But the execution isnt as great as the concept. I like the original trilogy, I dont love it, I dont think its the greatest thing ever, but its very entertaining. The prequels, meh, the biggest strike against them, other than Hayden Christensens "acting", is that you already knew how it was going to end the first time you watched it.

See if you can't find "Kirkless Generations" on the web.  It makes for a much better movie--almost like an extended episode from the series, and it's also a very impressive technical feat, cutting an entire arc out of a movie and still having it flow.

I don't mind Kirk in the movie it is what they did with Kirk in the movie that is not cool.  But I did like the Next Generation story line so that version might be interesting.

And, while Star Trek is great, the culture that has developed around it couldn't possibly be more embarrassing, so the stigma is sort of earned.

Well put.  Although I've been pretty embarrassed by some of the geeks dressed up on opening night for Star Wars movies.  I only play lightsabers with my kids.

I did take my two oldest to the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie.  There were a number of high school kids there dressed up.  Somehow they didn't come off as weird as adults in Star Wars and Star Trek gear.

I live in a small town, so when only ONE person dressed up as a full-on Klingon for Star Trek: Generations, it mostly received laughs.

Everyone just get a copy of Harmy's Despecialized Edition.  After getting the episode 4 one, I won't watch anything else now.  Need to get the other episodes.

Yes, those are amazing.  I guess I've got them in BluRay format burned to DVD-DLs?  Go rather nicely into 2 disc DVD cases along with a copy of the cleaned up Christmas Special.

Got all three yesterday.  Been wanting something like this but just hadn't looked into it.
The .iso files would not play with vlc nor could I convert them with makemkv.   They also wouldn't play when I mounted them virtually.  Was able to burn one to DL DVD but would only play on a blu ray player and not on the pc that burned it.  Ended up finding .mkv files someone had converted which work great.  I will be destroying any other "original" versions I have.

Whammoed, did you get his 2nd version ones?  Just saw he is releasing them now.  Didn't read what he changed though.
Having trouble finding episodes 5 and 6 as one of the main sites just got taken down by DoS attacks.  If this isn't acceptable talk here could you pm me where you got them?

Yeah, I had to convert the first one with dvdfab(paid for) to mkv
