iPAC VS Happ USB Game Control Interface
« on: July 04, 2012, 03:06:32 pm »
Hi guys

I need some experience/advice. I'm setting up GroovyArcade Linux.

Which one is better? iPAC or Happ's USB Game Control Interface
Emphasis on the following would be appreciated:
LINUX friendlyness (I'm new to linux)
Functionality (delays, errors etc.)
Quality (robust/breakability)
User Friendlyness

My first arcade machine (WinXP) has an iPAC, but I found them not to be very strong, but was extremely happy with the functionality and userfriendlyness.

I would like to do the JAMMA thing, so thats a plus so far.
Cost $185.20 (happ) Vs. 35 Pounds  (+- $55 ultimarc - excluding cables and connectors), woah, thats a minus so far....

I don't think I've ever seen anybody use the Happ interface because it is so expensive and I'm not convinced there is any support available outside of industry folks. For my part, I have used Andy's stuff (iPAC, jPAC, etc.) and loved them all.

But there are a host of choices available beyond just Happ and iPAC ... and there are more than are shown in the wiki (so all you encoder vendors, get your encoders listed in the wiki!)

in your first post you said JAMMA, so you'd want a jpac

Actually just had a look at JPACS yes, looks pretty nice, but do you need an arcade VGA for the video port?

AVGA or you can run Soft 15. Soft 15 is designed for XP and if you have a card 7XXX series or higher you need an EDID dongle.
