How much do people typically spend building a cab?

Typically and average are two different words, "Typically" as in the name in the thread title would be a variable, some more, some less.
"Average" Which could be ascertained by adding the dollar amounts and dividing by the number of cabs involved, is a mathematical term.
Swing that thing at Jen, and she will smack it with one of those cheap golf sticks.

I built my Arcade Nebula for about $900.

It is a two player slim LCD cabinet with trackball.  I built it with a budget and found that you can save money in certain areas.  I got my Happ 3" trackball for $15 shipped on ebay.  I got a Dell 2007FP monitor for $30 on craigslist and a free computer from work.  I used Souldraw.com for the artwork which totaled on $48 shipped for CP, marquee and sideart.  I used relatively inexpensive joysticks (2 Supers and a Zippyy 4-way).  I used LED strip lights that cost about $6.  The sound system was done for about $20 in total.  Biggest expenses was the MDO for the cabinet, the plexiglass, the hardrive and enclosure, and the KeyWiz.
