I'm learning Python for HCI. I think of all the time wasted not learning it earlier. ;D

The same reason as most people here; it's free, fast, stable, no viruses to speak of.
I use Lubuntu on my cabinet with hardware up to 8 years old, but it still runs well.

Also look for "GroovyArcade" - it's a self contained, bootable Linux/MAME in a box, which can also be installed if you want to - I do. It's better that way!
