GPi Case already sold out
« on: June 05, 2019, 07:49:12 am »
I have been waiting on the new GPi case from Retroflag for weeks and they went live at 12 am and sold out.  What a pile of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.   :hissy:

Probably several scalpers with their systems set up to buy once it went live - so they sell out within a few minutes and then the resellers list them at triple the price a few minutes later !

WTF is a GPi case?

I've never heard of it either so I had to look it up.  Basically it's a case that looks like a Gameboy but runs Retropie with a Raspberry Pi Zero.  It's actually a nice looking case but I'm not really into playing Gameboy games.

WTF is a GPi case?

The newest case being sold by retroflag ( makers of NES and SNES mini cases for Rpi3 ) - it's a complete Gameboy type case that just needs the rpi zero or zero W and AA batteries to build a gameboy type portable pi build - and at $69.99 MSRP is much less expensive and easier to build than the pother similar offers out there.

That thing looks snazzy. I might have to pick one up if they ever become available.

In case anyone was wondering it can be found here.

I may have over spoken.  Doing some research it looks like it is just a place holder and will be released next week.  Retroflag puts out nice stuff for schlubs like me who can't solder.

How many hours do you get out of one set of batteries?

It varies on the batteries and what game you run.  I've seen a video where settings were different and the guy got 2.5 hours with the brightness setting all the way up to 4.25 hours with the brightness down.

They have lots of very similar cases on www.aliexpress.com. I would imagine hacking one to take an Rpi zero would be possible.

I grabbed a GPi case by chance two days ago.  I was nosing around Amazon and got one and they sold out within 35 minutes.  I started setting it up last night and I'll post my thoughts when I finish on Sunday hopefully.
