game vault - 5% done
« on: April 26, 2012, 11:49:07 pm »
The build had started many moons ago but had sat in the garage collecting dust [neglected without an opportunity to to fulfill my arcade needs]
Reasons:
too many other things just got in the way...
didn't know what I actually wanted to build...
not being fully happy with the art work...

So... I have created the art [well pretty close to it] now there are only two more hurdles. Yess~!

For those that frequent the artwork section you will probably have seen a variant of this.
Art work to date will have an added speaker panel and kick panel.

More to come - I hope

My art is always free for you to download and modify as you see fit...
Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

For my MAME cabinet, I'm considering a similar layout for the control panel. Are there both 80's arcade games and 90's arcade fighting games in your cabinet? If so, can the joystick be switched from 4-way to 8-way?

Yea my games list is about 100 titles. I have a few fighters SF and the like but most of mine are shoot em ups, and old classics like time pilot and Juno first.
I bought low end sanwa joys which have a restricter plate to adjust from 4 way to 8 way fairly painlessly. I also have used zippy joysticks and find these a very good low cost reliable joystick. I can post pictures of the both if you like.
I just don't see the need to have put in a dedicated 4 way joystick but who knows I may get sick of opening the control panel to adjust it.

Sure, I'd like to see it, just so that I can weigh out the possibilities for me and my father's MAME cabinet.

You always have the Servo option and joychoose to automatically switch from 4 to 8way depending on the game.

Thank you for the advice. What online store can I purchase the Servo option or joychoose from?

Finally decided on the front end - boy this was difficult.
HS - Mala - HS - Mala! - HS!! - Mala!!!

Well i finally decided that i actually really like SHMUPS so it was an obvious choice to have a vertical cabinet.
With the added bonus of a few horizontals (until i convince my wife that two machines would be the go - not including the mini pinball i'm doing) >:D

I think i'll give the mala tree another shot so i can have three sub menus (with different coloured backgrounds) All games, SHMUPS, CLASSIC.
