I don't know that you would want to replace your normal 8 ways with these.  The feel of the movement is very different.  Hard to explain.  Clunky is the first word that comes to mind, but that isn't the exact word to describe it.  I certainly wouldn't want to play a fighting game, or most other games with it.

As far as making it work, you just need some form of interface.  Luckily the GPWiz I went with has the ability to read the 12 way position by tying every 3rd wire together and hooking those 3 combined wires up to the interface.  Unless your looking to replace your ipac with that, you would most likely have to get the rotary interface from Ultimarc.  That interface looks simple enough, it just sends a single keypress for each rotation.  So then the settings I posted would work with it as well.

Hmm then what to do.  :dunno

Is this the rotary interface you have and refer to?

Haven’t used it myself, but it seems pretty straightforward to configure in MAME, since it is pre-programmed with the standard MAME keys for rotation…

Me?  I went modular. I mounted all my joysticks to 4" wide panels. I wanted to be able to play games with as authentic controls as possible, so modular was pretty much the only option for me. I used a modified version of Doc's CP. I used Velcro instead of wooden dowles.
