Vertical bartop arcade plans
« on: February 05, 2021, 10:26:08 pm »
Soooo, neighbor became interested in my Cocktail build and REALLY wants me to build him a 60 in 1 vertical... Willing to pay what ever it's worth, but the only plans I have found are basic and not attractive.

Is there a resource for plans for that sort of build? :dunno

I tried to search the forum, but I am guessing the search feature is broken

Search is broken.  You can search google with site:forum.arcadecontrols.com and then whatever you are looking for in quotes.  HERE is a link.

Anyway, just find a plan you like and make it a bit taller to accommodate the monitor.  Easy!

I'm currently building a vertical bartop myself (check out the entry in Project Announcements).  My suggestions:

  • Think first, spend second.
  • Work from the inside out - make sure you've got everything working before you start building a cabinet.  e.g. I recently discovered not all games will work with both coin & Player 1 mapped to the same button - so I need to add a dedicated coin button.
  • Build the cabinet to fit the monitor & control panel.  Or if you have your heart set on a specific cabinet plan, make sure you've got a monitor which will fit.
  • Plan on building at least one prototype - what looks good on paper might not work in real life.  e.g. My Dell 2007FP has two side (bottom) USB ports and I have to make sure the bottom brace doesn't block them.
[li]Don't forget to measure the bartop itself.  My bartop has a planned 15"x15" footprint.

MAME Projects % completed:
2004 3 sided cocktail cabinet w/ modular CP <25%
2004 Tempest cabinet & CP > 75%
2017 Raspberry Pi Zero W w/ Lakka microconsole 50%
2021 Vertical Bartop - in progress > 80%, 100% functional
