- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.

- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

I shortened this competition 1 day so that we are at the normal Sunday finish.

Nice pick!   I used to play the hell out of this on my Colecovision.   I would say the arcade version is considerably harder.

Good choice for a game! I do have a question though...what end date did you mean to use, Sunday or Monday? April 23rd is on Monday, not Sunday.

39,100 on my 2nd game, after I figured out the strategy of the colors & items to pick up & the vegetable prize.

This game is hard on my shoulder--it's a bit unforgiving with the required precision for turning corners & such.

Cute but frenetic.

This is my strategy:

I get all the hearts in blue. This way you have a X5 multiplier on everything.
Then I grab the letters to spell EXTRA in yellow unless I already have it then I try to get it red.
All the other letters, the one that spell SPECIAL, I take in red.
A red letter is worth 800 X 5 = 4000 points. (If you took the 3 hearts in blue)

It's not important to spell SPECIAL, you only get an extra game!
It's not like on the Coleco Vision version where you have a bonus screen with only veggies.

Another important thing to know, especially for later levels when the vegetable is worth a lot of points, is that if you grab the vegetable (in the center) and then an bug kills itself by running in to a skull, the vegetable will reappear when the bug will gets out of his hole.

Alright, raising the bar a bit.   150,620

Pretty much using the strategy described earlier.   I think I got luck and was able to get at least 2 extra ladybugs.   Not sure which round it is but things SEEMED to get easier.   The clock moves faster but the bugs seem to move slower.   I also try to get as much of the outside of the maze done as this seems to cause me the most problems.

Let me start by saying, I AM AN IDIOT!    :dizzy:

I either misread the difficulty setting or didn't set it right.   I was playing the easy mode.   So, I humbly request we remove my previous score.   Changed to medium (and verified the other settings) and did notice the bugs are quite a bit smarter in the first few rounds than in easy mode.   I was able to make it as far as my previous attempt but had to bypass collecting certain letters I needed so that I could complete the board (which reflects the loss of points)

So my proper score is 110,530

I think the default is Easy, but twingalaxies ask for Medium.
110K is still a very good score.

Do you have any "patern" for the doors?
A way to place the doors to help you get the vegetable for example.

Well, whatever way I set the doors it doesn't take but 15-20 seconds before they circle around (wasn't quite this hard on the easy setting).   So it is really easy to get trapped with a bug working around the doors and 1 on the other side.   I usually try to run to where ever they are not and then if needed make a run for a vegetable.   I really think that luck has a lot to do with this game.   I've has some runs where almost every round placed a letter in front of the bug home.   I have also had games where I was able to spell extra at least twice and spelled special once.

I too was playing on the easy level. Strike my score.

I used to check the DIPs religiously before each comp, & they were always (well, almost always) already set to the default Twin Galaxies settings. So, I got lazy recently & stopped checking...

Oops!

Heh, I was wondering how you guys were getting such good scores. I was playing at medium and could barely break 30K. On easy, I can do much better than that.

Heh, I was wondering how you guys were getting such good scores. I was playing at medium and could barely break 30K. On easy, I can do much better than that.

I usually try to clear as much as of the middle as I can but am also conscience that I need to get the 3 hearts in blue as soon as possible to get the max points.  I also try to figure out what letters I need in what color before the round starts.   At the medium setting the bugs are pretty good at getting around doors.   You have to have a sense for when the colors are going to change.   If you just hang around a letter waiting for it to change you are going to end up getting run off.   I average about 11-14k for each of first 3 rounds.   As things start to speed up I try to get as much as I can around the center or on the other side of a set of skulls (knowing that the first couple are going to die before they get to me).  I also start strategically ignoring some letters just to get to the next round.   I think round 9 or 10 is where things settle down a bit and you might say it is a little easier in some aspects.  I have really struggled to get close to my high score (103k is as close as I've been).  I have have some games where I've had as much as 70k on my first ladybug but due to the fact I never got the required letters I needed to get even 1 extra ladybug I got wiped out and ended my game in the mid 80's.

Ok, I am making an executive decision and naming Patbb as second place.   I was getting all confused with all the invalid scores.   If anyone feels they should have been second just speak up.    I apologize in advance!     :-[
