Love Groovy MAME!
« on: March 27, 2012, 03:55:36 pm »
Well Groovy MAME was the best find I ever had in the whole of today!

Been getting the usual tearing and sound sync issues with standard MAME on my cab, but just installed Groovy and tested a few different game types and it looks to have nailed every one. GM 145u4 seems to run fine on my Hantarex MTC9000 with the default monitor config and Arcade VGA 9250 (good because I was really unsure how to set up a custom one).

However I am fond of tinkering with stuff so I'm just going to go through the steps I did. Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if I've done everything correctly and maybe inform me if there's any other little tweaks I could make? (Maybe with .ini file settings or command line)

1) Uninstalled all ATI drivers from system. (prev installed from Ultimarc CD)
2) Rebooted and installed Calamity's custom drivers.
3) Set desktop res to 640x480 60hz using QuickRes
4) Deleted contents of MAME's "INI" folder
5) Deleted original "MAME.INI" file
6) ran "MAME -CC" to create new "MAME.INI" and made a few edits to suit my cab. (Posted below)

Am I missing anything?

Thanks to Calamity for this awesome build!

why don't you give ves's unofficial linux live-cd a bash - you might like it even better!

Everything is fine. If you're happy with it, keep those settings.

You may get better results for your monitor by selecting "monitor h9110" both in mame.ini and vmmaker.ini (you'll need to run vmmaker and reboot). These are the settings for the Hantarex MTC 9110.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt

OK I've made the following changes...

MAME.INI
CORE SWITCHRES OPTIONS
#
modeline                  1
monitor                   h9110

VMMAKER.INI
 2. MONITOR
; ----------

; Monitor Type. Valid types: D9800, D9400, D9200, EGA, VGA, MULTI, H9110, PAL, NTSC, GENERIC, CUSTOM

   MonitorType = "H9110"

Then run VMMaker where it imported the mame.xml then generated new modelines. Then rebooted. Do I need to do anything else at all other than that? What about the options to import the new modelines in the registry?

The UpdateRegistry option in vmmaker.ini must be enabled when you run VMMaker.

Apart from that, that's all.

does that mean pathing to the drivers location as well or is that completely different?

Did it anyway, all seems to be cool and upgraded the PC in my cab just to be sure. Thanks for the help. I'll be back.
