I was a heavy duty diesel mechanic for a number of years (been 2 years since I've earned a paycheck doing that sort of thing). I actually get slightly offended when family/friends don't bring their vehicles to me before taking them into a shop... $30,000 invested in tools and a box, I love it whenever I get a chance to use them as long as my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---'s not what's broken down. But my wife whores me out to her coworkers and people I hardly know and that irritates me.

That's what gets me too...I don't mind fixing a PC for a friend...but then I'm 4ever their go-to person if "anything" ever happens again. (I still say yes sometimes...cuz I'm a sucker)

I gave an old PC to my former college roomate, who didn't have one. I swear she could not listen and still expected me to fix it every time she messed it up.

I donated all my old PC parts to charity years ago and no longer build freebies for folks.

For free?  In your limited spare time?

Nephasth:
Yup, free labor. It's not too hard to find time to help out a friend or family member.

ChadTower:

Good job.  I used to be like that.  Nobody ever returns the favor, though.   :P
