  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
First Mame Cabinet Build
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:38:16 am »
So I've had this old Bad Dudes conversion for a couple years now, and I've been considering MAME'ing it, but I decided I'd be better off starting from scratch.  But I can't just rip the thing apart and throw it all away, so I needed to find something to do with the 19" arcade monitor it has in it (I'm planning on using a 27" if/when I ever build my upright MAME cab.)  So I've decided to build a cocktail.  Here's some random details I think I've worked out:

Cabinet
Similar to Pac-Man cab, probably a little smaller. (thinking something like a 20"x28" top?)

Controls
Just 2 control panels.
Each player will have 1 Stick, 3 Buttons, and a Spinner.  (now someone convince me I only need 2 buttons)
Stick - Happ Competition 8-way with custom ball-top and servo driven 4/8 way switching (we'll see... may end up just using the JLW-UM-8)
Buttons - Happ standard
Spinner - custom spinner w/ mouse hack

Monitor
19" vertical arcade monitor

PC
whatever old dell I can find, 3.6GHZ single core (either P4 or Xeon), 2-4GB ram, Radeon x600 with CRT_EMU driver

Welcome aboard, Suicufnoc.

Stick - Happ Competition 8-way with custom ball-top and servo driven 4/8 way switching (we'll see... may end up just using the JLW-UM-8)

The Happ Competition isn't 4/8-way switchable, but the JLW is.
