Just checking the waters to see if any other service members are BYOACers and if anybody is currently near the Benning School for Boys.

Haha, had to google that one.  Too many letters for us ground pounders to remeber.   ;D

One of my closest friends was a squid before he commisioned into the Army.  He was never on a carrier or sub though.  He pulled destroyer duty I think.  CVN74 is the John Stennis right?

Two years of schooling for that one right?  When I first started I was a linguist and they told us the only school longer was nuke.

CVN 74 is the good old John C, Same carrier that gets sunk in Transformers 2, I got out 2 weeks before they filmed on it.

Off the subject by I finally registered for school ( ITT ) post 911 GI Bill all the way!! I start next week, Starting with IT but im think about the electronics degree to so I may change.

Two years total and a number of different schools.  Nuke Power School was by far, the hardest.  A lot of material to absorb.  At the same time, you were living in Orlando, Fl.....a little bit of a distraction.  It was a great experience though.  I would stick with IT, there are more opportunities there versus Electronics.  Also, work with the ITT job placement person to get an internship.  Getting an IT job can be challenging without some practical experience.  Once you get your foot in the door it is a great job.  I currently work in IT.

Language school was in Monterey, as I private I lived on old Fort Ord and could see the beach from my house.  Coming out of the midwest with a new young wife into the west coast and the military life was a helluva adjustment.  I look back on those years fondly, especially after being stationed places like Polk, LA.

Jimmy, .

Yeah after school I was in San Diego for a couple of months before our ship returned from a tour. Verys expensive living, especially on Coronado island. Living in Utah my whole life it was a wake up call with all the poverty (San Diego) there compared to home. Nice vacation but I would never live there.

After that we moved up to Bremerton WA lol big difference!! But we all had our own Barracks, I had my Alienware laptop, Xbox live, High Speed internet and Domino's delivered straight to the door! Our ship was in a 10 month dry dock and our division only worked a couple of hours a day. That's when I learned the amazing world of Emulators.

With doing 2 dry docks in 4 years I only got to do one 7 month tour. Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and Hawaii.  Not a huge tour but it was fun.

Aaaand now I remember why I shouldve been a squid.  Beats the hell out of Aghanistan, Iraq, Aghanistan.....

I would love to go back to Monterey for another tour, being an O3 in Cali vs being an E3 in Cali makes a huge difference in QOL I imagine.

Belvoir?  If so one of my best friends retired (last year I think) out of there, John Dunn, he was an MI geek tho so probably wouldn't have crossed paths too much.  Nice to hear from another green-suitor though

Who were you with and when were you over?

For me:

4th Brigade 10th MTN - Afghanistan 2006, Zabul
2/2 SCR - Iraq 2008, Baghdad, Baqubah
2/2 SCR - Afghanistan 2011, Zabul

Appreciate the sacrifice, being blown up sucks.  I've had the "pleasure" a few times but luckily nothing that did any serious bodily harm.  I did pick up a weird skin disorder the first time I was in the 'stan that hasn't been properly id'd by the Docs yet.  My wife thinks it's leprosy but nothing important has fallen off yet.

Word, I noticed that earlier.  Welcome.  Always nice to have a fellow ground pounder in the mix.  Do you like jokes?

So this Marine is in the airport waiting on a flight.  This 7 year old boy comes up and asks if he can try on the Marine's dress cap.  The Marine, noting that the kid is on the same flight consents and smiles as the kid totally flips out at getting to wear a Marine's headgear.  The kid is running around 90 miles an hour and realizes that he needs to use the head so off he goes.  Once in the bathroom he's using a pisser next to an old crusty Seabee who happens to be waiting on a flight.  Feeling a bit... anxious, the Seabee leans over and says to the kid, "Hey, you wanna suck my dick?"  The kid looks up and says, "Oh gosh no mister, I'm not a real Marine, I just borrowed the hat."

Air Force, 8 years. Went to Thailand, Okinawa, Guam, Spain, Azores, Alaska and a few CONUS bases. I miss the military... but a sure don't miss the pay!
