Converting a real jukebox to play mp3's?

(1/2) > >>

JackTucky:
By real, I mean I have one of these:

Can I stick a computer in there, print up a bunch of labels with the songs, and use the existing keypad?  The one I have has a dollar bill changer on it too.

We don't use it anymore.  It's loaded with 45's, but no one wants to hear those songs much  :-\

Thanks.

TheGatesofBill:
You probably need some form of keyboard encoder to use the keypad (and maybe the bill thing too, I know nothing about them). Then you'd need some software on the computer that plays MP3s, and outputs to the LCD if you have one.

SpAwN:
I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking about getting one of those old 50's style tabletop jukeboxes and connecting that to a computer via a iPac.

If you find any links on doing something like that let me know.

BobA:
Made my own box because I did not have a neat jukebox to work on but the inner portion would be the same.  Keyboard or keys to a keyboard hack or encoder for song selection.   I use virtual music jukebox and it works very well.  It will take coin input but it depends if your bill changer will output pulses or a pulse indicating a dollar.   VMJ lets you set the value of pulses on 2 coin inputs.

My jukebox is available at the bottom of this message

I wouldn't even know where to start hacking the keypad.  I like your bartop juke.  It looks real simple to build and I have all of that stuff (practically) laying around.  I need a remote, that's about it. ;D

Thanks.
