CheffoJeffo:
Really ?

It's a problem because dates for a 2 hour exhibition that were announced YEARS ago don't align with with somebody's birthday ?

Modern-day jingoism at its best ... or is it ignorance because you are foolishly aligning corporations with nations ?

No, especially not true if they think it will do well.  There is an almost proven conspiracy that really crappy movies (according to reviewers) are released internationally first.  I think Battleship has proven this to be very true.

I did some more digging and I think Marvel studios must have purchased the first week in May because since 2007, they have released their biggest movie of the year on the first week of May.

European release dates will be based on European holidays and school schedules.  Typically college finals in America are right around the first week of May.

Lots of people also think of May as the beginning of summer.  All of these things are why Marvel has apparently bought out the first weekend in May for the foreseeable future.

FYI,  Iron Man 3 coming out May 3, 2013.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 coming out May 2, 2014.

Edit:  And my prediction, Avengers 2 coming out May 1, 2015.

::)

I have no issue with the fact the movie didn't release in time for a birthday. My issue is the date was intentionally shifted later and how it can be annoying. The point of the wife's birthday was just narrative as to how it ended up being annoying. Sorry I even brought it up but I had to point out that I can't just go to a movie whenever I want.

Normally when a guy makes a static complaint about stuff like this, he gets a "Yeah, that sucks dude. Hope you find a chance to see the movie." Not here I guess.  :dizzy:

Even so, every nation with a film industry has their own regulating organization with it. MPAA, Nation Film Board of Canada, UK Film Council, etc. I wouldn't call Mike's first choice a words a major gaffe. It makes me wonder why the MPAA isn't pushing Disney to release the movie here first since they state that they are here to directly benefit the US film climate. They must be too busy suing people and pushing for internet censorship.

So, I ask a question of fact and you reply no and tell me why.

--- Quote ---As it turns out though, this is par for the course. Last year, Thor appeared in Australia more than a week before anywhere else, and continued to premiere in Norway, Sweden, and virtually everywhere else before it hit the US. X-Men: First Class, Iron Man 2, and Spider-Man 3 all debuted in almost every country lined up to show the film before they made their way to America. Captain America, at least, they let out here first.

I wasn't quite right, but I wasn't far off the mark.

If you want to tie release dates to the quality of the movie, then feel free, although I don't see the linkage as clearly as you seem to.
