Sega New Astro City xbox360 cab
« on: February 03, 2012, 02:45:44 am »
Nothing too ambitious here. Gonna chuck a 360 in a NAC. Got the cab today, i'l start ordering stuff soon. Most likely use viletim converter. Bit of garou in the mean time

What a lovely NAC.  ;D If you're going to make it a dedicated 360 cabinet, the UVC is a better choice as you can use the lovely 24kHz setting of the NANAO screen. But the viletim is good too.

Good choice on the UVC.
Check out my light restoration thread if you wanna see a few shots of the UVC running at 24khz.  It's pretty niiiiiiiice...

What's your controller plans? pad-hacks?

Oh and most likely ps360+'s for controls if they don't take too long to release.

I've seen people put them into fight sticks already over @ the SRK forums, so my guess is that that "beta testing" period akihabarashop's talking about is about done. But if don't want to wait and you only want the PS3/360/PC functionality and know how to solder, you can get these instead: http://etokki.com/Xbox360/Joytron-Paewang-Revolution-PCB-Only

So I ended up ordering a viletim adaptor, how important is the advanced 360 scart cable? I ordered the regular one but i'l hunt down an advanced one if you guys say its worth it.

I'l still do a uvc setup down the track but just getting a quick setup. PS360+'s are pre ordered, supposedly coming next month

Got a heads up from a friend, if you guys were thinking of grabbing a uvc for a project better get in now. Only 2 left, half price, link in emphatic's post.

Got one coming. So plans go back to using the 24 khz which will be sweet.

The best option is having both the UVC and viletim's Scart->JAMMA. PSX/PS2 games look amazing on an arcade monitor and there are plenty of nice arcade ports. Just add one of FrancoB's 24/15kHz relays to your chassis and wire it up to switch to 24kHz with UVC use only and you have the best setup for 240p as well as 480p.

Got my uvc running 24 khz to a Jamma fingerboard, with small amp for sound. Had a friend make it up for me, very happy about that lol. The jumper wasn't too bad could see it from the back door.

Looks awesome, very worth it. Pics soon.

God I wish the ps360's would hurry up and come out already.

Totally, let's see if they actually hit their release date this time.
I'm giving them one last chance (end of May), before I yank my pre-order and settle for the Paewang boards.

You really should look into FrancoB's auto-relay switch, as emphatic suggested. It makes it really easy to swap back to 15khz if you need to. Don't know if Franco's doing these anymore, but if he's got a spare laying around, I recommend buying it.

Got plans to whiten the speaker surround?

Not bothered about the relay switch, I have my ok baby cab I use for 15Khz pcbs. Probably just use it as a dedicated modern fighters cab for a at least a while.
Um I guess I could try something with the yellowed speaker surround, kind of feel like I have poured enough $$ into this cab though lol.

I getcha, I was in the same boat. What I did was get some sand paper, primer and a can Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance Paint. Sanded it to roughen up the surface to adhere to, primed it, then painted it with the appliance paint. Best $10 I've spent for a huge visual upgrade.

Me too!  I gotta try to sell one of my cabinets first, to make room. 2 NAC's are sexy, and a dedicated tate cab is perfect for the all-round gamer like myself. ;)

All gone :( someone bought 16  of them. Dam should have got in there faster, was keen to grab another one. Oh well they should still turn up for sale, just have to keep an eye out.

Been doing my head in trying to think of how to ad the extra buttons for back/home. Don't really want to drill holes in the cp. Any ideas? I'm thinking i'l mount them on a wood panel inside but I'm not sure.

Use your test and service buttons on the PSU!
I wired my guide and back buttons through the Jamma edge's test and service buttons and it works great!
Though I can't take credit for it, FrancoB told me to do it that way. That guy's alright. :)

Hm that's good thinking, but I really need to have 2p hooked up too, well at least back, won't be able to pick EX characters in KOF13 without it. Maybe one loose button somewhere in there won't hurt.

I use JAMMA TEST for HOME (and SELECT on my PS2->JAMMA padhacks) for P1 and JAMMA SERVICE for P2 HOME/PS2 SELECT. For BACK I would put an extra pushbutton inside the panel and keep the panel surround unlocked. Or do you play violently enough as to force you to keep it locked?

I passionately hate arcade ports where you need to use the otherwise useless BACK button instead of just the six or less arcade button functions. What's wrong with B?  :banghead:

I'm not too violent myself but there will be at least 1 small child playing it so can't really leave it unlocked. Might just keep the keys nearby and just open it when I need to. Don't think it will be all the time so should be ok.
Yeah back is lame, I think a couple other games use it in the trials mode.
